The original spring clips are design to work with manufacture heatsink. Personally I would not use it with another type of heatsink, like I said before if it is working leave it alone, too many changes you may damage the card.

Users should be aware when doing modifications what else can be affected (if any). If a manufacture added shielding and grounding heatsink it must have some effect no matter how small. Looking at a few non amiga threads, grounding of heatsink some users has posted there was no change, but there was a few users who posted their gain a few more megahertz when overclocking when heatsink was grounded.
Some users who used water cooling believed it was not the extra cooling by using a water cooling system, but by the large heatsink which was grounded which improved overclocking. Grounding of heatsink does seem it is motherboard/processor specific. As pointed out before,if a manufacture has grounded the heatsink,I here would not remove it on the grounds of "safety" even if it improved overclocking but what users do with their hardware is their responsibility. I still awaiting to conduct my own internal test to see what effect a heatsink with no ground has. Last edited by delshay; 12 August 2013 at 21:28. |

Both my cards now have this. By adding copper shim my fastest card now boots for the first time at 390Mhz,but needs a little more work to retain this speed. When adding shim be sure not to go near the edge of the heatsink, its not completely 90 degrees. Round off edge of shim for maximum contact with heatsink. NOTE: not all of Phase 5 heatsink are the same, there are three types. Their look the same but their are not,so depth of shim required will be different.
