The only sad part of this is that so many people lost their jobs.
If all a company does is release lame Star Wars games then its not surprising their sales suffered to a point development of big games was deemed too risky.
Yes theyve done some great stuff in the past, but it's not like that stuff vanishes along with the company. The good stuff theyve made still exists, and can still be enjoyed.

Yep my thoughts exactly. The LucasArts studio (not the name) is dead but their games will live on forever! Especially Monkey Island 1 & 2. Their finest hour in my opinion. Times Change though and it seems the buying public are only interested in Call of Duty, FIFA and all the other hunderds of clone FPS games.

Don't give up on them yet, lets see how the Larry reboot does for example.

Wasn't LSL Sierra? Or by "them" do you mean the public? (ie. interest in point n click adventures).

There's been a few adventure games still released in recent years. The Runaway series did pretty well. Syberia 1&2 were pretty popular as well. The Whispered World wasn't bad either. There's also been some good fan made games. The unofficial Zak Mckraken sequel in particular looks quite nice.
While not as prominent a genre as it once was there's still a decent amount of new games. Perhaps one day ScummVM will support some of these more modern adventure games too

Personally I'm still wanting The Labyrinth to get support Fantastic, seemingly little known LucasArts Adventure game based on the movie of the same name whose "script" was written by Douglas Adams.

Yet another great videogame studio closed. There are few I remember from the 80's and 90's that are still around - other than EA, Sega, Nintendo, Capcom and Konami.

This mean now that any LucaArt games still left out there are going to go up in value, you reckon?

I think so much has changed in the world of business (not just gaming) in the past few years than I care to remember.

RIP LucasArts. Long live Monkey Island (and all the others)!

I hope the developers get together in Kickstart related projects - it would be shame is Disney not only closed the studio but became vultures on future progress!

Have a look here then: http://www.telltalegames.com/monkeyisland

They should have tried to come up with another adventure after they messed up MI4. Like the whole game industry they went on the 'what sells gets produced' boredom train. Can't say I'm really sad about the whole story.

Re: Lucasarts - Dead

I really don't care in all honesty. Most of the devs from back in the day are still living there and trying to milk their old ips for more than its worth. Team 17 are no different. Nothing new of original!!

RIP Lucas Arts. Will not forget hours of swapping 11 floppies of Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis on my A 500... I'm thankful to DF1: for allowing me to enjoy the gameplay without losing all my hair as a child.
