In 20 years I'll still be using my CD player...

Most electronics these days expire a day just after their warranty runs out... so it'll be the same old Amiga's and other 80's/90's electronics stuff still ruling the retro roost

Hard to say, now stuff is fare more prevalent (sales figures) and far more disposable.

Unlike the Amiga that had a sales life from 1985 to 1994, theres not many machines that have that length of longevity anymore.

PS3's will still be around for a few years to come solely until Blurays are superceeded, and then they will vanish, the original XBox died a horrific death as soon as the 360 came out, it was as if Microsoft just assumed people wouldn't buy games on it anymore, and promptly closed it down overnight.

Not even Amigas are safe, lots have been trashed, because not everyone has the same memories we had.

Plenty of people are all about the 'next best thing', and they are not a minority either.

They would have had an Amiga for a couple of years, then moved onto a console, then PC then PS3 or 360, and are just itching to move onto the next machine.

As for gaming, i got an atari, then upgraded to spectrum, then amiga, then psx, ps2 then ps3.

The evolution of gaming for me stopped with the PS2, all the other systems were generations of games, each one offering new experiences with games, from 2d to 3d ext. The ps2 made the draw distance longer and a higher resolution, the ps3 did the same again. To be honest, i dont care about ps2 games even though i owned and played a lot of them. They just dont capture me in the way psx, amiga or speccy games do.

The ps4 will just do ps3 gfx but add more detail in the textures etc. Cod, fifa, gran turismo will still play and look and sound the same but "be a bit better" so why would anyone ever play GT A spec when its not really that much different to gran turismo 5.

Il always have time for SWOS, even when im old and grey. But i doubt il look back on fifa 11 with misty eyes lol

The original playstation was the turning point for me, when 3D gaming became the norm for consoles. Saw one in a charity shop the other day for a tenner.

Problem for the original PSX is that when it was released, it was a great machine, clearly more powerful than an Amiga, but look at a lot of the PSX back catalogue, especially the plethora of 3D titles, and they haven't aged well at all.

Agreed we witnessed the computer & gaming age since day 1.
Its in our blood. The noise of an old arcade triggers nostalga the young just wouldnt understand...
Gone are the days you would stroll up to a space invader machine whilst someone was playing and drop your 10p on the cabinet...Look at each other and think....Thats right pal....Im next

I was thinking about this a while ago after speaking to someone who just found out that "Soundies" were a real thing and that her gran wasn't just making things up. I reckon in 40 or 50 years or so, all this social networking thing will have boiled over and gone onto the next level where they will build actual buildings where people can go to socialise and play computer games together. And teenagers will tell us about these places like we won't have heard the like, and we'll tell them about Pac Man and Space Invaders in the arcades and they won't believe us.

Games are not going to be physical items for very much longer. Owning a game will seem more and more meaningless. Preservation will be quite different to todays. It will come in the forms of say..... Reverse engineering the on-line servers for classic games etc.

Hey Galahad, I was wondering, what is the difference between hacking a PC game and hacking an Amiga game? Is it the same thing, jump past the instructions that check for copy protection codes, or is it completely different? And yes, I remember arcades as well, dead and buried now, such a shame. Moving to 1 quid a go, and the rise of home machines with 3D graphics, just killed them. Sad.

Who remembers..

"Lend us your last life"
"Lend us 10p for a go"

lol..

i think 20 years is such a long time lol....

i would have to say anything you have now will be retro by then, but not tv.

any computer now(including consoles)
any car now
anything you use now can be retro in alot less time than 20 years.
anything can be retro for instance some pc's have a lifespan of 5 to 6 years tops before there erm.....outdated.

Eek

The way things are in the world today, I'm not sure there's going to be a future!

Well shit, that was depressing wasn't it? Sorry about that. Let's move along shall we?

OK so let's pretend we have a future (whoops sorry)

*starts over*

OK! So what have we got in the world right now that might become a much sought-after item in the future?

HOLY CRAP GUYS!

It's going to be anything to do with "My Little Pony" isn't it?

SHIT!

PS. Yes, I was thinking about any electronic/computer game related to MLP

PPS. Adds "Sonic The Hedgehog" to the list.
