Why, why, why do people use these programs to pack.

And when I finally succeded in unpacking, the games won't work! *sigh*
Another one would COP format...

Lha's and other relatively generic are great, but these more rare compressors just make me mad...

LZX was by far the best Amiga archiver in its day, had a better compression ration than lha, and the registered LZX could handle lha archives..

Just because windows/pc doesn't support it properly doesn't make it exotic, it makes windows/pc shite!!!

Lzx has been around since 1992/93 and when I ran a BBS i'd only use LZX archives..

Sorry but if you want to extract LZX properly then use an Amiga/Emu

@bladesinger : try this fix... cross your fingers

- Why the files get corrupt?

Because UN*X/Amiga linefeeds ($0A) are replaced by M$DOS/WinShit linefeeds
($0D $0A), which changes the size of the LZX file and corrupts it. Other
characters are not affected.

RARE?? LZX is used in pretty much every modern MS application distribution. Many 3rd party installs too. Think about that - LZX is anything but rare!

Exactly! LZX "evolved" into CAB on PC and was coded by the same author AFAIK. Windoze distributions alone make heavy use of CAB compression.

Well pointed out Fiath!

Maybe you missed by point on that post..

What i meant was compressionschemes like .COP and similar..

i recall that even XAD or XFD don't yet have the capability to extract that one..

LZX works for me on the real amiga and so on and so forth, but some of the new users out there and the typical emulation newbie has serious problems when encountering these..

You find a game X from the net and it's compressed with some other platform compression program, and there is no uncompresser made for the PC the user has.. the alternatives?

User has to pull rabbits out of the hat just to extract the files to use on an emulator? Way too much hassle, IMHO..

Zip has practically taken over the world as the de facto compression to use.. (although i admit it's not the best possible)
