No, I am not
This is what I said. I'll put it in bold:

Well, the other guy, Kim "Dotcomm", was a known character to the german demoscene.
It doesn't say IN, it says TO.
Also, back then the warez scene was related to the demoscene too, the crossover was always there. Will you deny that too? :P

I only said that people there KNEW this guy. My contact is with demoscene people. They KNEW ABOUT this guy. That is all.
You don't have anything better to do this weekend than argue with me over something you interpreted wrong?

Yep from the pictures there's no doubt it's the same Ortmann. Funny how a couple of old Amiga sceners make it this far, to owning one of the largest websites in the world, and then, eventually, into the arms of some salad-tossers in an American prison.

From Shoonay's link there's no doubt they weren't playing fair, but IMO only real criminals should be put to rot in prison. We'll see how it goes I guess.

Finally, and despite the assertions of the MPAA, RIAA and the authorities, MegaUpload carried a huge amount of non-infringing content, giving the service itself “substantial non-infringing users”. Nevertheless, all content has now been seized, leaving millions of people and companies without their personal data.
I hope these people will learn from it. Don't use Webhoster or Cloud services to backup personal/work files. Especially if it's your only backup.

You mean take the RIAA and MPAA and whatnot and stuff them in prison?

Funny sidenote: Ortmann was probably set up. Kiwi police deliberately chose Schmitz' birthday for the raid to catch other German citizens in NZ.

That's law enforcement 2.0. Use fat, rich men as bait.

Schmitz would rat out even his grandmother and interns, if it guarantees him a lower sentence. And i'm sure he has tons of logs from uploaders, even if the site claims it otherwise.

Well, I don't think Schmitz had a hand in it this time. They allegedly cut him out of his panic room with a pumpgun in his hand.

They seem to have raided that place as if it was a manhunt for armed and dangerous escaped criminals. Whoever made that call was obviously not in a sane state of mind.

Lightbulb Interview with former WinUAE developer Mathias Ortmann

Interview with former (1996-1999) WinUAE developer Mathias Ortmann about his current work as CTO/CIO at MEGA.

Quote:
.. Thirteen months after the Megaupload raids, Mathias Ortmann and Bram van der Kolk – Dotcom’s co-accused in a case that sparked headlines across the globe – can see the upside of the incident. ..
Quote:
.. “If you are in a situation like this, being prosecuted and the spotlight is on you, that is a great marketing tool,” says van der Kolk. To which Ortmann points out, “It is not recommended as a general way of marketing your business.” ..
