Looking for artist to collaborate on Lotus Turbo Challenge project

Hi all,

Just sticking the feelers out there-- I've decided to try and include an option for a higher resolution version of the game and am wondering if there's any artists on the EAB who would be interested in doing some 'upscaling'?

Basically just upscaling from 320 x 240 to 640 x 480 and cleaning the graphics up nicely so they look native to that resolution. Perhaps even adding a little more detail that wasn't originally present.

(Car sprites, backgrounds, track texture & scenery).

If anyone's interested, I'd love to hear from you!

I would be interested in attempting to upscale the gfx, although I couldn't be sure how good I'd be. :P

Presumably you just want sprites doubled in size and then the ugliness resulting from that, removed? And then additional detail the extra pixels allow?

Hmm, I'm pretty handy with DPaint 4 + 5, I might give it a shot...

Remember the game is for Windows, so other paint programs besides Amiga ones can be used, I presume.

I think P-J wants it to be an enhanced remake of the Lotus series, with the best bits of all combined. Plus he mentioned he wanted it to expand onto other platforms, such as Android and iOS, plus the GamePark handhelds.

Because writing a game with online multiplayer in 68000 ASM is not my idea of fun.

Thanks for the offers of help dudes. I'll come back to you shortly

I guess I could have a go at this as a last resort. I'm rather busy at the mo so not really begging for the opportunity.

It would be really cool if Andrew Morris could do it...? I don't have his email but you could ask Chris over at AmigaPD.com for it. Andrew is a very kind fellow and I'm sure he will give you a reply either way... Read an interview with Andrew Morris Chris and I conducted last year: here.

Just to see what you guys can do, I've attached a sprite of the car from Lotus 2 which is pixel resized to 200%. Would be cool to see how you could clean it up for the new resolution.

Looks pretty sharp there dude! Definitely looking for a little more smoothing of the double-pixel-wide (or double-pixel-high) areas, but it's a great approach!

Not too much. One background per environment, two or three cars each with 7 frames of animation and about 20 or so scenery objects.

Would love to see a second take on it, for sure. The more the merrier

Heres another attempt, I don't think I'm capable of any better, no doubt you'll find a better artist soon, I think this project will be very popular once we start seeing some online prototypes.

I will give it a go, what format do you have the graphics in? Can you use something like PNG alpha channel? I could make some smooth antialias that way.

Hey man. Just straight PNG with pink transparent colour. Tried antialiasing with alpha, spoils the vibe
