Peter mate WHAT an awesome upgrade!!!

Icons seems A LOT BETTER!
I made two screenshot comparisons of both Ken's Icons and MasonIcons viewed:
- on an A600 ECS 16 colors machine (with Rebel's Palette)
- on an A1200 AGA 256 colors machine (stock Palette)

Cheers

Thanks again Peterk!

More off topic:
The sourcecode to the 32 bit iconeditor for OS4 is here:
http://minniatian.republika.pl/IconEditor/index.html

Maybe someone with some C knowledge can tweak it to compile and properly work on an 68k Amiga and the native chipset.

Btw, what's wrong with EAB atm ?? I can't get a reliable connection anymore !!
Thank you Peter, the banding is still there, but is noticably improved. See the new screenshot.

PS - when I start OS 3.9 BB4 I get a requestor saying "intuition is atetmpting to reset the Workbench screen. Please close all windows, except drawers." RETRY or CANCEL.

This happens just before the screen is visible on the Radeon, so I have to witch to the native AGA output to "Cancel" that requestor, then the Workbench switches to Radeon and the system finishes booting. The background image is not yet visible when I get this requestor. I don't know if it's related or not to BB4.

@DarrenHD

If you ared using BB4, remember to use PeterK´s advice and remove pngalpha.library, as BB4 includes PNGdt.

I have already updated BB4 today.

PS: Whenever I get that error is because I somehow screwed my Picasso96 install/configuration.

No, sorry, but this version seems to cause crashes on every boot again.

Ok will try that, thnx for the tip.

BTW, I found out why that intuition requestor was coming up. There is an error in my startup-sequence that says "sys:c/loadresident: file is not executable".

Then I get the intuition requestor....so I will try to fix that problem. Then I bet that requestor won't come up. Maybe I am using wrong version of loadresident or something...

I had that problem with BB4 and I had to copy loadresident over myself (It was not included with BB4?)

thnx,
Darren

Good stuff thnx. My version of BB4 I guess didn't have it. Should I reinstall with the latest archive?

Darren
When installing BB4, which is a work in progress, always check the changelog and do a full reinstall when there is too much gap between your version, and the last one released. Otherwise, I suggest you read the changelog and perform the changes mentioned manually.

In your case, you probably have version 0.8n in your system. If you deleted pngalpha.library and updated icon.library to 46.4.206, and also added loadresident to C:. You dont need any sort of update, you are staying current.

Gulliver my friend, I get a lot better results in icons (at least on my A600 ECS machine) by leaving pngalpha.library in place.
I have not a single issue with pngalpha.library so I'm sticking with it on my setup (dunno if it has anything to do with WarpDT datatype instead of PNGdt44).

@mfilos

My friend, I totally agree with you, if using WarpDT, pngalpha.library gives better results. In fact that is what I have on my main system.

On the contrary, on PNGdt users, which is the BB4 default, I wont hesitate to follow PeterK´s suggestion and remove it.

The difference is smaller but pngalpha.library does give better results with all datatypes I have tested so far.

Pngalpha.library is also used by other software so people may well end up installing it anyway. Of course I understand that you might want to leave it out of BB4 until the problems are sorted... (though it seems it is only me having any??)

Yes, it seems you are the only one having issues with pngalpha.library
If the issues with it get solved, I see no reason not to put it back again.

That would be great. I have been trying to figure out if this problem is being caused by some other underlying problem on my heavily patched system. It would help to know if anyone else is running as many WBStartup programs as me (about 30) without problems.

First to say, I'm glad that the connections to EAB are working fast and stable again. I could not use it the last 2-3 days because the pages here either didn't finish to load at all or when I finally got in and started to write a new posting then it always crashed during 'Submit Reply'. Not so funny!

OK now, icon.library 46.4.208 is done. I tried to improve the color quality again. More is definitly not possible now. There also was a small bug, an overflow in the color tables could cause crashes when all 256 color registers were already used. That's fixed.

The PNGdt 44.6 doesn't need the pngalpha.library at all. I could find a way to get the best possible quality by processing each image twice with the PNGdt only, just using different background colors for the alpha blending. By comparing these two versions of the same image I can see where the alpha blending occured and where a pixel has just accidentally the same color as the background and thus should not be transparent.

@James
This time I enclosed the OpenLibrary() calls for the datatypes with Forbid() and Permit(). I hope that can avoid any race conditions when the Workbench tries to open its screen.

Awesome work as always Peter mate!!!

I'm attaching a difference screenshot on both A600 (ECS) and A1200 (AGA).
Most noticeable difference imho are:
- On ECS: "AmiFish" icon of Ken's Icons and All drawers and specifically "AmiTV" of MasonIcons.
- On AGA: All drawers and specifically "AmiTV" of MasonIcons.

Thanks for the constant updates my friend.

A big THANK YOU mfilos, because you're always trying to motivate me, even this time when I just could squeeze out 1 more bit for the blue color component. Every other additional bit would cause the color table to be flooded too soon with the result that the lower pixels of an image may not get their desired colors.
