Deluxe Galaga: What is the higest score ever?

Is there a list somewhere showing the highest ever scores in Deluxe Galaga? I saw that somebody on EAB got 75 million, but can't find any higher.

I just got 196,733,775 - in NTSC mode (A3000 connected to NTSC TV that doesn't do PAL). NTSC is definitely much harder than PAL. On PAL, I can complete the meteor storm nearly every time, but rarely on NTSC. Everything is faster and the shorter screen makes it nearly impossible to get under some of the aliens.

I died on level 430. The way I died was totally unfair. On one of the hardest levels, an alien popped up from below, died and gave me a fucking double shot weapon. I had to complete the next level and a half with this pathetic weapon. I lost all my shields and two lives, went down to single shot with no speed and barely made it out of there. It was a miracle that I survived and all I had to do was sit back and warp to the store, where I had $468,000 waiting to re-stock everything. That's when I got fucking Warp Malfunction - 6 green triangle bastards, shooting non-stop - and there I was with no speed to avoid them and a fucking pea-shooter weapon. I killed three, but then watched in disbelief as the remaining three shot simultaneously, leaving me no space to go. (what could I do - hop off the damn screen??)

Ah... but that's my sad story. Has anybody gotten further - or a higher score than that?

But your not bitter

But seriously... A great score! My top is about 83mill, but that was around 1995, not sure if I would do better or worse now, lol!

You "clocked it"? How is that possible? The points counter doesn't loop until 10 trillion. Are you saying you got 10 trillion??

I thought it would be 999,999,999... Out of interest where does it state that the counter loops at 10 trillion... Or I am missing something obvious?

When your high score is over 100 million, the high score display at the top changes to a smaller font to display it. Example: for my score, it shows 0000.196.733.775 (...looks a bit like an IP address). I assume that the maximum displayable score would then be 9999.999.999.999 - meaning it would loop at 10 trillion.

How long did that game last?
I get tired out from getting to 20 Million.

(Still my favorite amiga game, bar none. Played it on my a3000 that I had at work years ago, and still play it now.)

I didn't see the time on that game. When I died, I was too busy swearing and punching the couch... but on a previous game when I got 128 million and got to level 419, the time played was 6 hours and 1 minute. I assume it was at least over 6 hours.

I don't know which version I played but it was around 95/96 time and I managed clock it. Was playing all night from midnight till about 5 in the morning. In fact I think I maybe have even clocked it twice cos I had got the maximum money through some generous pink xC and reached $500,000. It wouldn't go any higher and you are invincible with that amount. You just keep topping up your lives. The levels reset so many times I lost count. I wrote it all down somewhere. I could have gone on playing indefinitely. lol. :P

Yes, I thought I'd be invincible too. Unfortunately, you're not invincible - not even with $500,000. I got to $500,000 four times (should have had at least $4 million, if it wasn't for that damn limit) and died with $468,000 sitting uselessly in my "account".

The problem is that you can only buy four lives and four shields - and after level 400, the alien bullets are super-fast. You have to get under the aliens to kill them, but the bullets are flying down like rain. Then you also have to avoid the crap weapons and death they keep dropping - which, by level 400, are also super-fast, making them nearly impossible to avoid. On top of that, the green UFO comes out on every single level - sometimes two at once! If you lose your four shields - easily done over 3 levels when you can't top them up - then die, you lose autoshoot and are down to puny weapons that can't kill anything. (even $2000 laser is a puny weapon on high levels when you don't have autoshoot)

I seriously doubt you got higher than 200 million in 5 hours. I played for over 6 hours and got rank bonus of 1 million points every 4 levels. I did everything possible to increase points. I don't think it's possible to get higher in less time.

Respect. I have no proof of this (my ex accidentally reset the high scores) but my high score was in the area of 120 millions so you got me.

I clocked Deluxe Galaga several times, until I realized that I could play it forever with my full armory and that I started to play it early morning and it was only lunch time, I gave up and never played Deluxe Galaga since them.
Damn I wish I was not that good at the game, I would had much more fun with it for longer time.

I wish the game actually had a proper ending. Looping games seem like a cop out. Just by simply increasing speed variables. Lazyness! lol. Maybe repeat a couple of times but not indefintely.

Why don't you try playing again - this time in NTSC mode - and see if it's more "fun".

There is a proper ending... sort of. There's that nice little victory screen, congratulations and 1 million points bonus at level 150. (and every 75 levels after that)

It is supposed to be a vintage arcade-type game and they never had endings. (to keep people using up quarters)

OK, I guess it is technically possible to get 200 million in 5 hours. I just played like a maniac and got over 172 million in 4 hours and 34 minutes. Another half an hour or so and I'm sure I could have made it to 200 million... if I DIDN'T GET THAT DAMN DOUBLESHOT AGAIN!

I died with $317,000 - once again proving that big money doesn't make you invincible. I died on level 331. It's after level 300 that the alien bullets and shit weapons start coming down too fast to avoid. (in NTSC mode, anyway)
