Premier Manager 2 versions and tactics?

Hello People

A few questions about one of my favourite titles on any system - PM2.

After trying many ADFs from various sources on the interwebz which did not on install on my real A1200, I got a geniune real copy with the fantastic protection wheel from Amibay which installs nicely! The wheel is really hard to read though - black on black, good work!

I noticed that the installer on this version (which mentions A1200 compatibility on the box) is an AmigaDOS based installer. Whereas at least one of the ADF versions I found had a custom ingame style installer with music (Andy Gray and Martin Tyler - you know "what a lovely bend on that ball").

Also my version starts with some players with 0 years left on contract - an ADF version I had (with custom installer) never had players on 0 year contracts when starting the game. Also I think I am losing more money more quickly on the real copy I am using.

So I wondered whether there were different versions - maybe including bug fixes? On many PC games you get a version number on boot screen, but I don't think you see much like that on the Amiga.

Finally what tactics do people use? I can't remember my killer tactics much but I currently using 5-3-2 with Normal for everything, Nearest Man Marking and Medium shooting with Long Ball Graham Taylor style football!

Any other Premier Manager fans out there?

I use the whdload version and it works fine. I downloaded a preinstalled version last year off his site.

I am a massive fan too. Though PM2 is bottom of the 3 for me. PM1 becuase of Wycombe Wanderers and PM3 with the editor.

Hmmm, never played PM1 even back in the 90s, I started with PM2 - I don't have a copy of PM1 nor have I see a preinstalled version around - is one that anyone can share?

I think I remember reading somewhere they had terrible memory leaks and are difficult to make whdload versions....

Players with 0 years remaining on their contract is normal as it's the start of a new season and the transfer window is still open.
The best team tactic by far is 5-3-2 sweeper with nearest man marking but not long ball, long ball is best for 5-4-1 formation.
Only use hard tackling if the ref's reputation is soft...you can see the info on the ref before you start the game.
Start the game as Halifax, they are the best and if you play doubles you can also milk your 2nd team for players and money, i normaly start the game as Halifax & Dagenham.
I've lost years to this game but it's the best manager sim out there for me.

Ah yes - Wycombe were a bit good. Won the Conference easily in the first season (to be fair they did the same in real life that season too). Several seasons down the line I ended up winning the Premier League and European Cup in the same season with Crystal Palace of all clubs. A bit too easy for me. Fun game though.

Yeah simialar for me!

Ive uploaded the PM2 whdload preinstalled pack. I maybe wrong but i think you made the pack Graham?

Try it Brookster, ive never had an issue with it, though you would need a memory expansion.

Nah I think that was Retro-Nerd. Pretty sure I merely re-uploaded it at some point.

I forgot all about that too

Gordon - thank you I have a 4mb card for my A1200 so should be good. Actually waiting for a ACA1230 too . Will let you know how I get on when I get home and can give it a whirl!

Obviously still a fair bit of love around for the PM series - I see that on PSN they recently launched a new Premier Manager there is a demo too, so must try that as well.

In PM2 I usually choose Witton Albion, only because I use to be a season ticket holder and it was my local club
