Wink The (one and only) CUSA thread

Hi:
Just want to tell I've seen this at http://www.commodoreusa.net/CUSA_OS.aspx :

Introducing AMIGA Workbench 5.0 Workbench 5.0
"A distinctive, attractive, advanced and stable operating system experience"
Unleash your creative potential with AMIGA Workbench 5.0, a distinctive, attractive, advanced and stable operating system experience, that will come pre-loaded with dozens of the latest and greatest productivity and creativity software the open source world has to offer. Featuring dozens of exciting 3D games, the latest web browsing technology, a Microsoft Word compatible Office Suite, advanced graphical manipulation programs, 3D raytracing software, advanced software development tools and languages, photo and movie editing and sound and music composition programs, there is no task too big or too small for a Commodore or AMIGA to accomplish.

"100% Commodore Compatible"
Feeling nostalgic? Workbench 5.0 will also be 100% Commodore compatible, able to run classic 8-bit, 16-bit and 32-bit era software via emulation. A beautiful user interface allows you to easily peruse games for the Commodore PET, Vic20, C16, C64, C128 and AMIGA. No need to bother with floppy disks, as practically every game you ever owned is now readily available on the internet.

All our machines will also provide optimum software flexibility with the optional extra to run Windows software either from a dual boot menu at start up, or seamlessly integrated within Workbench 5 itself.

More information will be available before launch. Please check back later for updates.

They have updated his web, and now you can see photos like this of the new C64:

Moved to Amiga scene. A tad vague for a news thread.

Too bad this won't be available in Europe - it'll fail miserably on CE testing.

Just a Mini-ITX PC running emulators. IMO not really interesting. Lots of people did that themselves.

Die Die Die Die Die. As if the OS 4.x debacle wasn't bad enough.
Can we have a whip round and buy the name off these jokers?

How about a Commodore II, with built in Clone A technology, plus of C64 core?
Maybe PPC to be able to run Amiga OS 4.x that would be a killer machine.
X86, with Aros could be nice too.

Regards
Kamel

probably just an Ubuntu Theme with emulators, surely Amiga and C64 forever bundle.

Who is the asshat behind Commodore USA anyway? Is it me or is the impression I get from this shady character to get every dollar he/she can muster/milk from the Commodore/Amiga brand name?

There is NO WAY on earth that she/he is a friend of the original Amiga or any Commodore machine such as the C64. If they indeed owned any Commodore machine in the past then they should have their mouth washed out with soap and be throughly ashamed of themselves.

Putting an x86 motherboard in a case that resembles a C64 is a complete abomination and a crime. Why don't they go the whole hog and do the same with the Spectrum etc?

Sigh!

I have to say that I like the photos of the C64 in the meaning of the hackery to put all inside it. It's really beautiful. The Oooh!nly thing is that all inside (as said) is x86, not related to C=

That rear fan would be great instead of this (which I like too):

All we know of CUSA comes from their (weird) web site and some (weirder) postings and emails. Is there any substantial news from some where else that a company called Commodore USA LLC with a CEO called Barry Altman really exists?

Yep I can understand and if the 'Marko Hirv' design ever got into production I'd be keen but my morals say : no way!

Well they are living in cloud cuckoo land. Smoke and mirrors. The only thing they are selling are pictures of something that doesn't even exist. I actually wonder if they have the capital to even make these computers after buying the 'rights'.... and from what I've seen of their actual product are cheap Chinese imports with a C= logo 'stuck' onto them.

Mr. Altman even has a homepage which is designed to put Amiga users in a trance and buy his product!

I think it's hilarious. Let's see how long they last - it's not like they're the first people who have made PCs and slapped C= labels on them.

With this current iteration, they even went as far as to design a custom case and keyboard for their system instead of just buying a keyboard PC from China and calling it their own. :-D

Commodore USA don't want to use Aros anymore after some silly arguments and trolling on AmigaWorld. Their "Workbench 5.0" is going to be Linux, probably Ubuntu with an "Amiga-theme".

Their "Amiga 1000" case is this one http://www.karmadigital.com/tf5_htpc...e_pc_case.html

Not sure about this! While I like the idea of companies trying to keep the spirit of the miggy alive, I'm sickened by the work of charlatans who seem to think any Amiga lover would stump up their hard-earned for something half-baked!

AROS - I like. A solution to bring the spirit of the Amiga to the next gen. It's fun and you can tinker with it, just like a real Amiga (despite it not being a real Amiga)
UAE - I like. I run it on my pc, my wife's Win-laptop and my Acer netbook. I can get my Amiga gaming fix on the move
Minimig - I like. An open source project to keep the Amiga alive on alternate hardware. Excellent tinkerage opportunity too!
Stuffing a pc into a posh-looking box, skinning another OS to look like AmigaOS, slapping an emulator under the front-end and sticking an Amiga (or C=) badge on it - I HATE!!

In the short while I've been a member of EAB I've seen posts by loads of true Amigans who truly love the machine and the OS. Who on Earth would expect us to go for something like this???

<phew - end of rant. I'll have a mince pie now >

Blame me, l kill me .. whatever... but I like the design and idea. I would not buy one but that´s something totally different.

At last Amiga will be at the forefront of computing!

I for one can't wait!

The wait is finally over!

I'm totally gratified that people find Interceptor worthy of being downloaded and played after so many years especially in light of its rather rudimentary visual content by standards constantly increasing over time.

As I've said I like it. The only thing is what's inside.
Who knows? Perhaps to replace my PC, but not my Amiga.

We don't have nothing against WinUAE, do we? It's just an step ahead for a Pc to emulate an Amiga or C=64, like when you add a Commodore joystick to your laptop to play Amiga games. It isn't bad in that sense.
