Do you like the Amiga version of Primal Rage?

Hi!

Well, I recently played the Amiga version of PR and I said to myself:
"This is a nifty conversion"...because it is basically written for a 85er machine.

What do you think? Are the graphics good enough? Is it fast enough?

The conversion is good and faithful. but a good port of a bad game is still a bad game.

Well, the longplay is here (bad quality back then it seems) plus a comment from the player/recorder which I will quote:

What a boring game!
Doing special moves is almost impossible as the controls are so laggy (so i had to fight only using the standard moves)
Probe did a much better job on the MK conversions, this one is really crap!

The Amiga version is a disaster compared to the Arcade original - dont even think of playing this

It should be AGA game, I don't know anyone who had A500/A600 with 2MB RAM.

The featured comment at YouTube is actually interesting:

Cubex55,i don't know if you are aware, but in this game, you do the moves while holding a button, then let go of the button to get the special attacks out.

This is why all my mates hated the game, just couldn't get used to it ,after coming from playing street fighter 2 for years.
The long-player even responds, that he didn't know about this. Gotta love players, who don't read the manual.

It's a sloppy half-arsed game no matter what platform it's on. Also i personally think the Amiga has always been a bit weak in the fighting games category.

I don't know, I had plenty of fun with the pc version. Its not as good as Mortal Kombat of course and some of the graphics we're REALLY clunky, but it was entertaining.

Its a faithful conversion of a shit game frankly.

Pity its not really AGA, but obviously needed the 2meg of chipram so the ingame loading wasn't utterly mind killing.

Strangely enough, it is not possible to play PR on an accelerated A1200 / A4000.

At least my original copy refuses to load the game, leaving me with a nice information on the screen: 1 MEG REQUIRED.

I have waving feelings with this one. I played the original arcade game when it came out and that was a love at first sight. But when the Amiga version was released, I had to tolerate that my platform is not in the mainstream zone, therefore anyone can say that just shut up and be happy to see any bits'n'pieces of this ware on your obsoleted machine's screen. What is wrong in general with the stuff? The bad control, the totally annoying and disastrous peecee-alike sound, the gfx with lack of colours. Just for the first things I can immediately recall.
But still, it is Primal Rage, one of the last titles officially by a widely known company.
Opposite example is Capital Punishment in my eyes, which is the best fighting stuff on Amiga, IMO.

Indeed. I don´t like this game, too. Fightin´Spirit (!!! amazing !!!) or even Elfmania are better choices.
