The EAB "old timers" thread

After Burseg found my virgin EAB thread , nostalgia overcame me. I couldn't believe I wrote that over a year ago!

Then I had a look at members in my first thread (and hence a year into their EAB life also) that seemed to have disappeared off the face of the earth!

Iv0, Khephren, Mangar, MrDig, ptrchiappe, Malc to name just a few.

Anyone know what happened to them?
Are they still here reading this?

Since Fred is bringing up the past, let's have a thread for all members over a year old! You deserve it for sticking with the program!

Perhaps you might want to link your VERY FIRST POST! and name the AWOL members in it because we never said they could leave! EAB is for LIFE! People might be able to shine light on what happened to them. Or perhaps they’ll post here!

More importantly however, I want to see the oldest EAB members right here, right now.

Almost there

I just checked my first post, a compiler request, issued in 12 September 12th, 2001. So in a few weeks more I am turning one year EAB old.

edit: quite a long request, as I've read the rules and I did try to show all my efforts to find the program, the dead links...

100% newbie at the time...

those were the days I was not a total leecher yet... A Total Tosec Set was something that seemed way too hard... impossible to get... I am feeling a little nostalgic...

HEY, it was less than a year ago!!!!

helped me with "Reach for the Skies", so I posted it here. Then you helped me there and we got to be m8s!

Malc was the guy who started this thread...

Hey, maybe i don't post very often but you can't say i've disappeared after the long work of translating all Simulmondo titles from italian to english for TwistinGhost (beware : only the titles, not the complete games don't get me wrong ).

I registered here 14 June 2001 because i was searching Prison and Bobic from BTTR pointed me to this board.

That was the object of my first post (which now seems disappeared) and i obtained a working copy (different from the common available version which was bad).

Since then, i read EAB every working day and will continue until my bosses allow it; when they'll cut it, i will be obliged to buy a modem (and maybe another computer too) but i'll still be here reading (and occasionally posting :laugh ).

Sorry ptrchiappe! Great to see you're still here!

I thought a few I mentioned might still be around, that's why I started this thread. You had the honour of posting in my very first thread on EAB, how does it feel!

I'm really enjoying reading members first posts. I bet it's bringing back a few memories for everyone. Sad to here one or two may have been lost, but that's the nature of forums. Rcks server may have had teething troubles in EAB's early life.

I know I said 1-year-old members only, but if you've been here long enough for your first post to seem nostalgic then join in the fun like jmmijo.

Wow..Ptchiappe...I remember that thread I think someone posted a config fo ryou, and I may have posted a screenshot, if I am correct. I bet the post is still around.
Update:
Ok Pete, here is your first posting thread!

http://eab.abime.net/showthread.php?...ghlight=prison

And the other one that I remember:

http://eab.abime.net/showthread.php?...ghlight=prison

But no config or screenshot. I think that thread is dead. I swear I remember a screenshot of the guy in his cell.

That's because none of them is my first thread .

In that thread were posted both screenshots and a couple of zips of the game (yes it was before The Zone).

Stressing my (not so good anymore) memory, i remember that i had wrote if somebody could help me because i had no access to Maincore's Dreamzone which was the only place that had Prison; then somebody downloaded it for me but it was non-working and somebody else posted a working version (not available on the net) and that was the first time i saw Prison working again in 12 years (yes i had to wipe off some tears ).

Probably it has been deleted because of the attachments, or by mistake.

Doing a search by username, the first thread by me still available is this: http://eab.abime.net/showthread.php?s=&threadid=620 , written on the 29 june 01, so i was already two weeks on this board.

Nice to know people are still around reading the threads.

Rck, I should never have doubted your skills, Akira's threads are alive!

It's time for us to get the pipe and slippers out for Jambo, you old time EAB'er you!

Rck must be a bit long in the tooth as well - do you hold the very first post every made on EAB? If so, what was it? A welcome of some sort I'd guess.

I believe my first post here was agreeing with Cody's assessment of Amiga Power here. So mine was not even Exodus-related.

I remembering not having anything exodus related. I just sort of slipped over here from Network54.

I only remember a few of the people mentioned though. And I never really got involved (Still haven't). I haven't seen much from Wjorfe around (Or maybe that was just an e-mail or two I got from him on the winfellow project).

I used to be at emulation talk too... and I stopped posting there for some time, because it was becoming just a adf-request board. Then I was talking with Akira by ICQ how crap emulation talk was getting, and he told me about EAB.

Then it's all history, no need for other Amiga board ever

Yippppeeeee!!! I got a mention at last!

Drake1009 is right, I did a stint of advertising EAB on quite a few other places, non-amiga sites as well!

I remember posting a few times on emulation talk, I got bollocked for flaming!! I think if I remember rightly, the person bollocking me was Akira!! But hey I bet you're glad I did as EAB is far the best Amiga forum on the net, with people like Twistin, Cody, Akira, Jambo, etc you cant go wrong!
Keep up the good work guys!

I registered here on the 7th July, 2001.

I remember my first thread here. I was a guest at the time. It was simply entitled Lots of games don't work

I remember that I had just discovered Amiga emulation, and I was very excited about playing all the classics that I had never got to play. But I tripped on the usual newbie stumpling blocks, being the different configs needed in UAE.:hoo

I found this board when I was searching for help in a search engine about this matter. I made the post, and I was surprised at the immediate response, and generally how helpful and friendly everyone was.

I was hooked. Not long after, I signed up. And EAB is still my fav forum on the Net.

Remember my first thread as a member? It was about one of my fav games, Technocop, found here

I only brought this up because it highlights the loss of another EAB member, Burge. Where are you dude? You helped me out when I was in crisis, when I couldn't figure out how to get my own avatar!

(I think this latter thread was deleted...I couldn't find it )

yes I suppose, but it should have been lost during massive update (rck-power > abime & EAB1 > EAB2)

Big grin

Still a short while away from my birthday at EAB here too, but great thread all the same!!
I'm sure my first thread is missing, but I'm pretty sure it was a request for Ancient Art of War in the Skies, which Fred kindly helped out on.
I was blown away by the generosity of guys like Fred,Twistin', Andreas, & finding a fellow C64 fan in Akira,& of course my great mate Amigaboy.
Would've loved to have seen the "exodus" here!!
But Akira vs. Marz usually provided solid entertainment!!

My first thread on July 17th 2001. a reply to a thread started by Marz [how he is missed...] about the INteractive verison of Night Breed. I was shockingly polite.

ANyway I haven't been visiting the board particularly often but nobody has missed me so I dont feel too bad. I hope to spend abit more time here from now on.

Most of my threads do some to be about or at least mention AMiga Power. Opppsss...done it again
