Secret Vehicle in Hunter: the Amphiunisuperduperbigmobile!

I recently asked Paul Holmes, the programmer of Hunter, some questions about his game after covering his Siege On London for Amiga Games That Weren't.

He revealed that there is a hidden vehicle called the Amphiunisuperduperbigmobile! Start the game in Hunter mode, go to location 200/249 and swim north to 200/250. It's a bit tricky to find but there's an invisible room with seats, flags and the vehicle.

Awesome! You should ask him if the plane shown as an icon in the side panels on the loading screen means that there is a plane in the game too!

I've already asked about that. The plane data is in the game but it's not on the map so it can't be accessed without a hack of some sort.

he he, cool I wonder how many of these hidden wonders are still left to find in games of ye olde times. Respect to the devs for managing to keep it a secret all those years!

(or perhaps it is just a case of forgetting all about it... I naively choose to believe otherwise)

Wow, an amazing find. HUNTER was one of the few Amiga games that I actually bought with my hard earned pocket money . The game and box takes pride of place at home.

Mr Holmes deserved every penny, what a ground breaking title and absolutely ahead of its time.
I will dig it out and go swimming tonight to check out this easter egg!

I hope he is doing well in life, writing Bubble Bobble for Sky sounds interesting although he does say he is out of the industry now.

Funny thing memory

I remember getting a blagg from one of my younger brothers friends at the time, If I remember correcty I was dis-interested at the time.... anyway that weekend I wasn't at work I thought - oh hell... try it anyway....

I was so taken by the game I went out and bought the original from my local "computer plus" store the same saturday afternoon!

Strangely enough it was the same chappy that showed me a copy of perihelion a year or so later and I went out and bought the game that day....

This is great! Thanks for getting this information, Cody.

I've been all through this game, but never expected to find something like this. (...and I thought this was just going to be a bullshit joke thread)

I still wish this game was just a bit faster. I guess jotd couldn't find a way to speed it up. It's a pity. It would have been much more playable.

@Cody - FYI, your hyperlink to 'Hunter' on the AGTW page goes to the 'Sensible Soccer: International Edition v1.2' HOL entry

One of the most amazing games on Amiga! Wasn't it ahead of its time when it was released? Seems to me that 10 years later this concept of using different vehicles while carrying out the mission was exploited in "Operation Flashpoint" for PC and Xbox. I always wondered how they managed to pack this entire 3D world on a single floppy and make this run on a custom 68000/7mhz Miggy.

I've worked out how to make the light aircraft appear. As I said before, you won't find it on any map but you can make it materialise!

If you want to fly in the plane you can fake it by getting into a helicopter and then changing the value at address A7B to 1B (in WinUAE - Shift+F12 to enter the debugger, W A7B 1B <return> g <return>).

However, it still acts like a helicopter so it's more like a Harrier Jump Jet than a light aircraft. Perhaps the game has code to fly the plane so it might just be a case of finding out how to add it to the map as a real vehicle.

You can set the A7B address to different values to change your character into other objects.

who knows how many goodies are still hidden in this game. I wouldn't be surprised if it was revealed that you could operate a BATTLE MECH or ride Segway. Hunter was sooo ahead of time

You are right. Anyone could take care of taking some relevant screenshots (4 of them preferably so as to have a full row for the entry) of the secret vehicle and the way to get there?

I have never played Hunter so I would be at a loss I guess trying to manage that.

I'll then add the screenshots and a note about the vehicle.

Mercenary/Damocles also had different vehicles.

Hunter was a great game though, I remember there was a cute truck I liked to drive around for some reason. Also there was a cheat code that enabled your man to fly around like superman, which was very funny.

I've got the screenshots. I'll add them to the HOL entry.
