And again, someone tried to put words in my mouth, pretending I said something I didn't. The Amiga was an affordable alternative to PC's a long time, not just '85-'87. Besides, the Amiga's golden years (in terms of gaming) was 1989-93/94. Around that time, Amiga gaming was very affordable compared to PC gaming - even though they had mostly the same games.

In 1985-1987 the Amiga was nowhere near "affordable" as a games machine anyway

But as I said, I didn't say it was a successor, full stop. For gamers, Amiga was a very affordable alternative to PCs. For gamers, a Playstation was a very affordable alternative to PCs. Also, don't forget that many used their Amigas and their Commodore 64s and PCs purely for gaming. Because, you know, they had different games than consoles, so it could very well be considered an alternative to console, why not the other way around?

And KG was condenscending, wether you blame it on (bad) humour or not. He took my words out of context and made a sarcastic remark about it as if I was stupid for saying it, then not even giving an argument why (in that post, mind). That's condenscending.
Don't.

So.

Of course it was an alternative, the Amiga had different games, if you wanted games like Civilization, Monkey Island, Syndicate, Sim City, Beneath a Steel Sky, you had to get either an Amiga or PC.

Edit: Oh, you said Playstation, no it was never an alternative to Playstation because the Amiga was basically dead and buried by then (in '95, only the hardcore fans remained, like me). I said the Playstation was an alternative to PC, just like the Amiga was an alternative to PC.

When you insult people, you should expect them to be insulted. I will apply to your wish though, and I will never take you seriously again.

I just said what it was like up to at least 1991. There was the odd adventure/RPG in VGA that looked nicer on the PC, but noone would have bought a PC for gaming at that time. So for a long time the main 'rival' for the Amiga was the ST, which had about the same price. In 1991 to 1994 I kinda agree, but then you could see that the Amiga was loosing ground in terms of 'powerful' very fast. The PSX was interesting for 'powerful' gaming for maybe 2 to 3 years, which is why I mention the little difference in the history of the two machines (given you only look at games).
If you state your opinion about something, don't be surprised if people comment on it (and don't take it too serious ).

I get surprised when they completely misunderstand me, and especially when they do it seemingly intentionally and with a sarcastic remark without any explanation. Why shouldn't I take something like that seriously?

I have to mention NHL Championship 2000 - It's not the most perfect Ice Hockey game but I think it certainly is well worth picking up - you can buy it for pennies - I think it is a lot of fun and certainly maintains the argument that the PS1 has aged gracefully!

Check it out on Youtube - it looks good even today.

The fatastic Henk Nieborg. He did Lionheart, Flink and Ambermoon graphics an the Amiga Check them out if you want to see games that have aged well!

Couple of old game dev snipets:

PS1 did not have perspective correction, hence crooked textures (you could get around this with automatic tesselation-cost some of your poly budget though).

It could draw loads of polys, but you had to make them quite small, else they would disapear!

It did not have a Z-buffer, you had to write one. So some games had objects vanishing at weird times.

N64 had Z-buffer, perspective correction and alpha blending, but not enough ram

Sega kept releasing games with plenty of ploy's, and transparency on the saturn-but would not release to 3rd parties how they did it. One of the reasons devs felt no qualms in deserting them with the dreamcast.
