Mounting DMS and ADF images

Please bare with a newbie here...

Instead of unpacking disks from eg. a CF card onto a floppy and afterwards install it on my internal harddisk, one should think it was possible to mount the disks virtual, and install them right off the CF card.

Now I've found the "ADF Device" programme that presumably does it with ADF images (right?), but what about DMS files?

Can these be mounted?
Or is there another way around this to aviod the floppy middlestage..?

Yes, it called WHDLoad. It allows disk based games that normally can't be installed to hard disk, to be run from a hard disk (straight from Workbench). Very nice program, but it's shareware, and has a nag window when unregistered (if you play alot of games it's worth the money IMO). Also, some WHDLoad installed games don't run with the unregistered version (but not many as far as I know).

Get WHDLoad here: http://www.whdload.de/
Get complete game installs for it here: http://www.whdownload.com/

Seeing how most disk games can't be installed, WHDLoad is a must.

It was exactly because I want to install games with WHDLoad, but the way I have been doing it, is to first uncompress DMS to floppies and then install to harddrive. Making the floppy disk an annoying and timeconsuming middlestage.

Can WHDLoad install DMS files directly in their origin form, without uncompressing them to floppies first?

Or is it possible to mount virtual disk images from a DMS file? (like you can with ADF's)

You don't need to install them, someone already did all the hard work for you

So you basically copy these files to your Amiga harddrive and play them?

Yep, you just unzip them and play.

If you have WHDload installed

Sorry, but I wasn't very clear about this: The second link I provided links to a page with fully installed games, that is the game's WHDLoad client together with all of the game's data and code. No need to use disk images, just unpack to your HD and play

There are programs that can mount DMS and ADF images, or even CD and DVD images if you want, but if you don't need such functionality anymore, don't bother
