Hello there

Oops, forgot to do this before I started posting yesterday. Here goes :-

I'm Chrispy (Neil) from Brynmawr/Abergavenny in South Wales. Many moons ago (late 80's early 90's) I was known as Dr Butcher on the Amiga Scene god only knows why. Think it was because I was told I had to have a username and chose my favourite horror movie at the time.

After discovering 3 old 1200's and 2 CD32's in my storage container decided i'd dip my feet into the sea of the Amiga and try to relive some of those oh so cool days of the scene and now i'm already hooked. Just placed an order with Amigakit for some upgrade bits and bobs and hopefully i'll still be tinkering in years to come. Thanks for having me here.

welcome there is a lot great stuff going on here. What is the story behind the container items - are they your old machines from way back?

Thanks for the welcomes guys, already feel at home.

Yes, one of the 1200's was mine from way back as was one of the CD32's. I bought them on the tail end of the Amiga scene (just as it was dying). They were mint in the storage container but bloody mice got in there and chewed the boxes away to nothing, polystyrene as well. The other two 1200's and the extra CD32 were bought for (future) spares but I didn't realise how tough and resliient these babies are. All three 1200's kicked in straight away (albeit with screeching noises coming out of the floppies) and one of the 32's has got sprinkles of white paint over the top lol.

If I can sort out this CD32 emulation that Chris from Amigakit was telling me about today I may end up E-Bay'ing the 32's though. No need if I can do it through my 1200.

I wouldn't mind a CD32 for my collection, if you decide to let one go at some point talk to me

The screeching noises coming from the floppy drives are probably the sounds of your drive heads being killed by fungal growth in the old disks. You should check the film in the disks and see if there are any tiny spots on them, if there are you should throw them away. If you must use floppy disks, get brand new ones, and clean out your floppy drives first. You can get floppy drive cleaning kits that are a disk with a pad inside them that wipes your drive heads clean. These work great if you're not up to disassembling the drive and cleaning it manually.

Thanks for the info my friend. It was actually my favourite game (Alien Breed). I just can't bring myself to bin it. When I think of all those hours I spent, locked away in my room playing with my little joypad

Hi chrispy,

I'm sorry to hear that. Would you like me to upload some replacement ADFs for you?
