ATAPI Disk Drive (ZIP/LS120) Drivers?

Hi peeps!

I saw in Eyetech methinks, ATAPI drivers for an IDE ATAPI ZIP Drive... but they were commercial...

Is there a freeware solution to connect these drives? Would I be able to fool one of the CD filesystems into thinking the ATAPI diskdrive is a CDROM and use it like that (at least read only)?

You are thinking in the wrong direction. There are two parts of a dos driver: the ide driver which reads data from the drive and the filesystem that interprets the data. CD filesystems are for interpreting ISO9660 data and can only be used with CD-ROMs. For Zip and LS120 drives any common filesystem like FFS, SFS, PFS, Fat95, CrossDOS etc. can be used.

But in this case the builtin ide driver (scsi.device) is the faulty one: it does not recognize ATAPI drives, neither CD-ROMs nor ZIP drives. I do not know of any freeware ATAPI driver. But if you already have an ATAPI CD-ROM running, you certainly have an ATAPI driver and can use ZIP and LS120 drives without problems.

I said I was looking for a driver, not a filesystem. I mentioned later "cd filesystem" I meant driver... I was in the wee hours!

So I presume from your explanation that I can use a ZIP drive because I've got a CD driver. I have to try it out.
