IBROWSE and MUI 3.8 : How to buy/find keyfiles?
Hello,
I installed IBROWSE 2.4 and MUI 3.8 to surf the net because AWEB II SE is too obsolete! IBROWSE 2.4 is a very good internet browser but it's a 30 minutes demo. I tried to buy the keyfile but authors stopped selling it. ![]() Also MUI 3.8 is unregistered and don't know how to buy the keyfile. ![]() Can you help me to find / buy keyfiles for IBROWSE 2.4 and/or MUI 3.8 ??? Thank you very much!!! ![]()

Mui can still be purchased but you will only get a generic keyfile.

and for MUI 3.8....the key is not really necessary.....the key allow config some unnecessary visual gui things and if you have a gfx card and lot of ram you can use Netsurf a much better browser |

Hi All,
Has anyone had any lucky recently in registering MUI 3.8? I've sent Stefan a few emails to his two email addresses with no response. I'm also happy to buy a 2nd hand copy if anyone has one for sale? Cheers, Chris *** EDIT - Never mind, I've sorted this out already... Last edited by ck16; 07 February 2011 at 15:41. Reason: Update on status of previous post |

Is ibrowse better than aweb?
And does it require a specific os? |

It's different. Both have their strengths. IBrowse looks and feels more like Netscape / Mozilla / Internet Explorer at that time. AWeb is faster but flickers a lot.

That is, some sites using 1.6 or higher might already cause problems on the one, whilst the other has no problems with it. BTW, I'm really curious to learn about how accurately Flash sites work on both...(if at all) |

They don't even have CSS!

Netsurf has CSS, IBrowse doesn't. Both have their uses, but only Netsurf on high-end Amigas (like mine
). |

Doh, i didn't know that Netsurf lacked javascript. I'm using mainly IBrowse anyway and testing Netsurf releases for kicks.

You would think with all the open source stuff nowadays it would be possible to make a decent browser for the amiga.

Amen to that!
![]() I could crack up laughing, really. The one supports CSS, the other doesn't ; and the one does not support Javascript, whilst the other does! LOL! Yes, one working "Internet vehicle" is better than two partly-working ones! Did I say "vehicle"? Surely I did, as it's a bit like with cars: what are two cars useful for you if the one lacks the engine and the other has no tires? ![]() |

It's really not that simple I'm afraid. The problem is that the 'internet' has evolved and continues to evolve at a rapid pace. Any current browser (Chrome, FireFox etc) must undergo constant large-scale development just to keep up. Ibrowse etc are now very old and would require a massive effort (actually to be pretty much thrown away and re-coded) to be compatible with todays' sites. The other issue is that your classic CPU is not going to be up to the task of running a compatible browser, or the graphics chipset (AGA) or even the data interface to get the required throughput (eg PCMCIA), oh yeah and not enough memory either ![]() It's a shame but the days of a usable classic Amiga browser are a long gone and never to return ![]() Last edited by NovaCoder; 23 June 2011 at 05:48. |

Yes its such a BIG BIG task, even for a powerful new system.. For a now slow machine (over20 years) its too much to ask for I would say.. Use more text based services and stay away from the gfx heavy pages.. Mobile versions of pages should work fine in Ibrowse aswell..

Tried to Google ibrowse2.key without success. (Am I just blind? Alas...) Any clue, direction, or semaphore would be received with nothing less than lifelong loyalty. Thanks,

In that case, why not just upgrade to the latest version of AWeb?

Suggestions for iBrowse 2.4 and MUI 3.8 (for 68k running OS 3.1-3.9):
* Release it as freeware. or * Re-start registering (still active for MUI as mentioned earlier in this thread?) or * Start a bounty; let's say that 1000 euro (100 users gives 10 euro each) to the developer(s) makes him release it as freeware and he never has to bother about registering again. |

Suggestions are interesting but members of this forum are not the ones to decide. Someone who is able to contact with Stefan should send it to him.
