getting vxl030 at 50mhz
Is there an easy way to determine if the pals on the vxl can run at 50 MHz. I currently have a 50 MHz cpu clocked at 40 MHz and a 68881 20 aMHz clocked at 12.5. I am wanting to replace the 68881 with a 68882 33 MHz and crystal as well switch the 40 mhz with a 50 mhz crystal. I know there were some issuses with running at 50 mhz and the pal chips, but I don't know which version of the pals I have. The board revision is 2.0
Thanx |

you will need re-programmed PALs for the board. I have the 40/50Mhz version vxl030, unfortunately I dont have a PAL reader/programmer (just GAL) or I would see what I could do. If you know where I could get a PAL reader/programmer the please let me know as I am in the market for one =D |

those are both programmers so could program the chip but you would need the code to put in them. Both of those dont say readers.
my understanding is that a PAL is made up of lots of "fuses" of sorts which you blow to make the circuit you want and that you cant read back the information with the exception of doing logic tables of each output. (/end techy garbage) You can make a GAL programmer for the Amiga if you have the time. There is one called GALler on Aminet. |

Would there be perminant damage if you clocked it at 50 mhz but te pals were not programmed for 50 mhz?
As for reprogamming the pas, it sounds to be more hassel that the extra 10 mhz thatcyou would et. |

you could try, I believe the worst it will do is "just not work", I will say the device it notibly unstable at 50Mhz - so start with smaller increments like 33Mhz - 40MHz etc. @rkauer I was just looking for that link in fact =) |
