You're staring to piss me right off Alex, I think you need to take your over abundance of good luck (which would last most people a lifetime) and shove it somewhere!

If it makes you feel better it is my intention that after they have both been restored and have been working well for a while that the spare will be sold, at below cost, to an active Atari Scener without a Falcon. Someone who will actually use it rather than try to profit from it's sale or use it once then store it in their attic.

Jesus wept, he's got the Care Goblins on his side as well!

I don't bemoan your good luck Alex, just wish it was my good luck and not yours!

You probably don't want to hear this then :

Falcon B has what looks like (to me) like a PowerUp2 32MHz bus accelerator in it It is off by default so I'll need to use the software to activate it and some benchmarks to see if that is what it really is.

The small rectangular thing bottom centre with the mass of wires going around the motherboard.

@alexh:
-Must try not to be too jealous-
Fixed grin:
That's a really great find, well done to you. I hope they:

a) give you years of enjoyment
b) explode their PSU's and burn you house down

It's a), honest a). Yes I really mean it...

...why don't I ever luck-out like this..?

Nice systems BTW. I hope you'll have time to post more photo's soon.

Just a FYI. The Falcon does NOT suffer from the leaking battery issues like the Amigas. The RTC in the Falcon is housed in a Dallas chip and cannot be replaced without hacking it out or unsoldering the old chip out and fitting another one in. It will not leak.

See here for more info:

I was never going to be able to justify to myself the 280+ that a working one from eBay would sell for. I had looked for almost a decade for a value for money one and it just wasn't happening.

The vendor was a very nice guy. Gave me loads of information up front which gave me the confidence that from the two I would be able to make at least one working one.

First job is to fit an IDE-CF adapter and then replace the noisy fans. Unfortunately Atari never designed them to be replaceable. The power & gnd is soldered directly to the motherboard. I'm going to have to desolder the old one and fit a header. If anyone is interested I'll update as I go.

Me!

Please post updates

I'm not up to soldering but I'm sure I can bribe Simbo to wave his soldering iron over it if necessary

The fan is a 40mm * 40mm * 10mm fan and I'm getting two EBM-PAPST 412FM as recommended by DJBase.

At 19dB(A) it is not the quietest 44mm fan available but it is a make I know and trust, plus it was recommended by the excellent DJBase.

Sorry to hijack Alex's thread but my Falcon arrived this morning. It honestly ooks like it has barely been used/well looked after or both. I have not opened it up yet as I have Amiga bits all over the place and don't want to lose anything.

From the outside it would appear to be a stock 1MB Falcon. I need to get a Mouse and a VGA adapter for it as well as wait for my CF adapter.

Any spares Alex ?

Andrew
