Thanks again guys for all the help

I've posted an 'ad' in the wanted section so if anyone wants to sell me a cheap 48k let me know

Also interested in eventually getting a toast rack 128k like I had when I was a kid, I know I'll have to pay a decent price for that though.

Steve.

Well I got a Speccy 48k today and got a little further with the DivIDE.

I got it to show this of games on the CF card but when I try to load a game I get the title screen of the game and then it crashes so I'm wondering if there is a problem with the DivIDE?

The seller said to try another speccy and if it didn't work to return it so I guess thats what I'll be doing unless anyone can suggest anything?

Its not bee a complete failure though this exercise as I have just aquired 2 boxes of speccy kit for a tenner!

I've got the complete set of Marshall Cavendish Input programming guides, a big box of games and various books/etc

I need to try loading a tape on the speccy to make sure its ok.

Grrr.

Not having any luck loading games from tape either...

They get the the end of the load and crash.

So maybe the speccy is knackered.

But then again I seem to remeber it being like this back in the day, waiting for games to lod only for them to crash.

Steve,

are you using Tap files with the Divide and did you put the jumper back for a 48k model?

Yep Jumper changeto 48k mode.

I've tried ll types of files, tap, sna, z80 they all load and crash at the title screen.

I've now tried about hald a dozen tapes and they all do the same, load till then end and crash.

I think maybe ram problem?

Not having much luck am I

I've been in contact with the seller and he advised me to return it although he says it was carefully tested prior to being sent.

Maybe ts time to try another speccy, you still up for having a go Allan?

I can post it to you loaded with games so it would be a case of switch on and go...

That's probably the best thing (posting it to me), I know that my 48 and +3 work with the plus D and multiface devices stuck on the expansion ports, so this should work OK if it isn't duff.

Have you still got my address?

Yes I still have it mate.

I'll post it off during the week. But, I did just get Jet Pack to load. (from tape) woooooooooooooooooooo!

However still think the DivIDE is ok and its just the speccy. This 48k isn't in great condition so maybe its got a problem.

Still a good buy in any case lots of classic games I didn't have included

Dang!

The end of the PSU plug broke off when I unplugged it

To re-wire it (It came with a spae plug hmmm)

Does the cable with the brown stripe connect the middle or outer part of the end plug?

I'm pleased you got a game to load from tape, the volume control/level is always a tricky problem with the speccy and even more so on most tape players with a bit of luck the divide may have just been temperamental about the CF cards or something along those lines, but until we try it on a known good working speccy, eliminating any problems is like working in the dark.

All the best,
Allen

Hi there Steve,

the centre pin is negative on my supply, this one has a round cable instead of the flat 2 wire type and I don't know offhand where I put the other power supply with the 2 wires. Time for the old multimeter I reckon.

I'm pleased you got the power supply sorted

Progress!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ok! lol...

It looks like it is the speccy that is the problem, in fact the RAM I think.

The one tape game that work was Jet Pack, which is a 16k game.

So I thought I'd try some 16k games on the DivIDE and those that are less then 10k snapshots work! Anything over 10k crashes.

The speccy is labled up as 48k but is there a command I can tytpe to check the RAM? And if this is the fault how easy to fix?

Thanks again for all the help!

Steve.

Do you know, I was fiddling last night till the early hours LOL

I actually got some games to work on the +3 through the DivIDE. I had the usual crashing porblems and weird screens but on one reset the games list came up!

And the 48/128k games loaded up fine.

Sadly its near on imposible to get it to work again but I guess we've ruled out the DivIDE being at fault. I just have two Lemon's for Speccy's

Anyway Allan, I'll get it off to you later in the week and then once we've tried on your Speccy's we'll know for sure.

It'll be good to know that if or more like when I do splash out on a nice 128k I'll be able to enjoy games via the DivIDE.

Hi there Steve,

it sounds like you made a little progress there

I must admit that it sounds more like a bad connection or a static damaged component, although it will probably either be a bad flash or problems with the type of CF card etc. We will get a better idea once it gets connected to a known working speccy, keep your fingers crossed and lets hope its something simple

I just seen your other post about the Ram size, it really has been a long time since I used mine apart from trying those audio files, I never really looked at the screen prior to loading the games. I am stumped at the moment for the answer to show the size of the memory, I thought that it would come up on the boot screen but it doesn't (just tried the 48+, those keys are a nightmare to remember)

Hi Allan,

I'm thinking maybe it is a poor connection after all on the +3, I might open her up tonight and give the connections around the interface area a good clean.

Can you suggest the best way to go about this? Also my joystick ports don't work, they detect the joystick but its like the fire button is stuck on, maybe I'll take a photo of the board and post it here

Not sure if its worth mentioning, the reset button is a little problematic, you have to press it just the right amount to get it to reset but I susspect thats the switch rather then the board?

You guys are legends by the way.

Cheers,

Steve.

Hi there Steve,

you can use a little alcohol or surgical spirits on a cotton bud or just a piece of kitchen roll to clean any film off the contacts, be sure to earth yourself to discharge any static before doing so or you could damage the speccy.

The reset button on my +3 needs to be pressed in for a few seconds to clear the memory otherwise the game doesn't clear, maybe your joystick fire button may not be wired correctly for the speccy or you could have autofire switched on if it exists on the stick
