OT Moderators' Announcement

The OT moderators, DemonHellraiser and prowler, wish to express our thanks and congratulations to EAB members on creating a varied and interesting set of topics for discussion in these forums during the four months since we were appointed. A group of members recently collaborating on the EAB Gaming Server was particularly successful.

It has been a pleasure to see how the forums have developed since their reorganization and the increasing number of members who are becoming regularly involved. We'd like to ensure that OT remains an enlightening and entertaining section of EAB and that everyone (remember: membership of this board includes children as well) has the opportunity to build on that achievement.

With this in mind, we would like to point out that we have no objection to good, clean fun, but there are still indications that some members wish to participate in discussion of topics which were thought to have been eradicated when the OT-Stupidity forum was closed, and those threads affected have been and will be moderated accordingly.

Other subjects that have arisen, but which are not considered suitable for general discussion here include moderation ethos, sexual perversion and positive aspects of piracy.

Unresolved argument and the use of gratuitous innuendo of a kind which is desrespectful or alludes to sexual orientation will always be removed if it escalates to the point where it diverts the thread from the topic under discussion. Thoughts of a more personal nature should be confined to PMs.

Finally, it has to be said that the good aspects of the OT forums have by far outweighed the bad in these last four months, so we would like to say a huge "Well Done!" to everyone who has participated.

Demonhellraiser and prowler

Happy

The EAB massive, which includes a varied selection of cross-dressers & sexually perverted individuals (both in hardware and software), wish to express our thanks and congratulations to EAB moderators on annoucing that Gimbal will be reformed using the latest psychological methods to curb his cross dressing fetish.

It has been a pleasure to see him wearing a dress and the forums have developed since their reorganization and the increasing number of members who are becoming regularly involved. We'd like to ensure that OT remains an enlightening and entertaining section of EAB and that everyone has the opportunity to build on that achievement of causing mayhem (ok I'm joking!)

With this in mind, we would like to point out that we have no objection to moderation. Anyone who discusses the Atari ST for instance should be nuked on sight.

Perverted thoughts of a more personal nature should be confined to your partner or Gimbal.

The EAB collective.

No, you'd just be referred here and then back here.

@gimbal and paul_s:
Your posts will be allowed to stand for a while to give everyone a chance to see them, and then they will be deleted to prevent this thread becoming bloated.

It will not become bloated, most of the people who could cause bloat are already scared away and/or banned. Leave Paul_s and me alone, we're a dying breed of tongue-in-cheek posters that actually obey the rules in stead of harping on about it.

just playing devil`s advocate but how are we sposed to find out if your morals are ok if we cannot talk about them ?

I personally get a tingly feeling when the mods all close ranks and we arn`t allowed to talk about them

To be honest, all the posts concerning sexual orientation were becoming a little too much. Obviously it was intended as light hearted humour but I find it hard to believe people of 30+ years of age were constantly posting images of transgendered peoples trying to make some crap jokes about them and others.

It was infantile, pointless, humourless and possibly insulting to certain people. Then when moderators stepped in to clean it all up, members of the forum cried and wailed like babies. It is strange to think these are adult men with families etc.

I really didn't see the appeal of it all. Thanks to the mods for creating a normal OT section

Adults are allowed to be light minded, giddy and infantile. There is a place for everyone in this world, you shouldn't be put into a cubicle because of what you do, believe or how you behave. In fact it is quite the opposite of adult behavior to do so, IMO. It is more the realm of teens.

While I can agree it may have been "too much" at times, I'm with Gimby, grown-ups should be able to let other people enjoy their way of having fun without feeling the need to judge them. There was an OT-Stupidity section, the name said it all, but people felt the need to impose their own definition of stupidity to the people that actually enjoyed that area of the board.

The conclusion of this whole situation for me is:

- Loss of many interesting, friendly and funny members
- An OT section that is basically dead compared to what it used to be. Not even 1/10th the activity, nor 1/10th the fun.

But hey, let's not make this start all over again. Some mods did what they thought they had to do, some people that didn't agree left, and some other stayed and accepted the new deal, and I'm one of them.

What annoyed me more was that one small group of individuals decided what was best for all of the EAB. That was more offensive than anything that was ever posted in OTS.

The moderators decided what was best for EAB.

It's what they do.

No, I meant:

They are there to do their job.
They did it.

They decide what's best for EAB. All the time. As they did when they closed OTS. That's what he meant.

No, a small group of individuals - some mods, and some not - decided they didn't like OTS, and they took matters into their own hands.

They thought that, just because the humour there didn't suit them, they'd bring the entire place down. It was pathetic and infantile.

The mods then had to react.

I'm sure the mods who make decisions around here are big enough to make their own choices.

They aren't going to do something that, as a group, they don't want to do.

A group decision was made, they acted on it.

And in their own admission, it had been a long time coming.

WHy has this risen it's ugly head again!

Let me simplify this. If you don't like the lack of a more varied OTS section.. Well you know where the "log-out" button is.

The decision has been made, we are sticking by it and there are plenty of forums out there that allow this!

Enough said!

I am sure everyone here has an understanding of common sense and common decency, although even then, there is always going to be differences in how people perceive what is right and what is wrong. After all, we are catering for a global audience with many different cultures and attitudes.

This argument is ongoing and is something that will never end tbh, however, mods and GM's are in place to make decisions for the majority, that's what we are here for, similar to your supervisor at work, to make educated decisions based on any given situations. Whether a decision is right or wrong, the decision has been made in the best interests of EAB and that should be enough to keep everybody happy. Next step, the boss (RCK), makes the final decision based on everything, his decision is final and is not arguable.

At the end of the day, the decision was made to eliminate OTS altogether and replace it with something a little more decent and welcoming to EAB's established members and to some of the newer members that have joined since.

Don't condemn EAB's OT for a past decision, let's make it what it is now, and stop reliving the past.

The purpose of this thread was to praise our members for their continual support of the new OT section, not to argue the toss about why, when and what happened to the old OT. Anyone who wishes to do that should start their own disapproval and non-appreciation society thread in OT-General.....

And on that note, thread closed!!!
