Amiga extended character set

Can anyone tell me if there's a quick and dirty way to access an extended character set, in particular foreign characters like , , , etc. from the Amiga Workbench or Shell without altering my language settings, please?

I have various Workbench and AmigaDOS manuals, but nothing is mentioned concerning this.

I am trying to reconstruct a corrupt lzx archive containing a multinational Amiga application and consequerntly some files have foreign characters in their filenames.

Any help with this would really be appreciated!

Thanks for looking.

The 'KeyShow' program on your Miggy WorkBench will show you some of the basic foriegn letters that are available when pressing qualifier keys.

Have you had a look at that?

Not yet, but I've just looked it up in the WB 3.0 User's Guide and it looks just what I was looking for (I have a TSR which does much the same thing in DOS on my PC). Thanks for the suggestion, Dave!

I'll let you know how I get on with it.

Edit: Hey, the KeyShow program was in the manual all along. You just have to know what to look for. I was looking for something like extended character set/key sequence tables.

Hey, the WB KeyShow tool is the only utility you need for accessing the extended character set on your Amiga!

Yes, but it's not quite that simple.

You can access most foreign characters by using the Alt key plus a,s,c or o to get ,, or , or A,S,C or O to get ,, or .

Or you can use the Alt key plus f,g,h,j or k as qualifier keys to get acute, grave, caret, tilde or umlaut accented characters, respectively.

Double-click the KeyShow tool in your Tools drawer and select the Alt, Shift or Ctrl keys, or a combination of them to see what characters you can get.

The Keyshow tool just shows the keypresses necessary to produce the available extended characters. Once you know them, or have written them down, they can be used at any time from Workbench or the Shell.

Five Gold stars for davideo!
