How does centering work?

Some demos look ok with centering checked, others go off screen badly so I was wondering what exactly does WinUAE rely on for positioning the image on the screen.

Seriously, it is more or less same as display window (diw) at least in non-AGA modes. Some demos have "infinite" window or simply too large window but as usual, "border" is rarely where you think it is..

Hmmm, let's say I just wanted to know what WinUAE does in these situations you mentioned with infinite or extremely large windows, basically the references it uses for centering the image. Since I don't even know what diw does, guess I'm more or less where I started. I don't want to waste your time, so if it can't be put in a few lines, no problem, it's mere curiosity

Long enough list of demos that do not center or autoscale correctly might help in future..

Guess I sort of never bothered making a list because I didn't know you were open to revising this part of WinUAE's functionality, I mean, isn't it like the native resolution/overscan situation?

Anyways, take some of the scenes from "Terminator 23" (btw this trackmo is arse

) which are horribly off screen, or the much more subtle rotating earth/Annie artwork from "Misery Dentro 2" which are quickly repositioned by a pixel or two when centering is on
