So it's more powerful Amiga hardware with a fully programmable coprocessor.

I find it interesting, and it's good to see a new platform being developed. One thing confuses me though, how would multitasking working with that XMOS chip? Surely it can only "be" one thing at one time?

They state on the X1000 site that "Commodore did with the A1000, we're aiming at the high-end first, with a powerful desktop computer aimed at the professional and serious hobbyist markets (although you won't have to wait until summer, and it should be a little cheaper!)"

I think they mean that the A1000 was released in Summer 1985 (July 24th) and cost 1295 USD.
The X1000 will be less expensive and out before the Summer..... :-) !!!

BUT

Is that less than the 1985 1295USD or the equivalent today of 1950USD ???

They said SAM was for the low-end. What did a SAM board cost?

EDIT: €600-€700

Btw. I like the new design.

Very interesting, and aimed fairly and squarely at hackers (in the old sense of the world) if I understand it right.

Consider me intrigued. This makes a lot more sense than trying to create Super AGA++, etc, where it is impossible to compete...

Yes It's a good move, trying to give the platform a USP again. With a bit of luck it will get a foothold and that will allow the platform as a whole to get more competitive.

Let's hope they don't screw it this time. It must be affordable and not tied to A OS. We need Linux drivers for that baby, too.

Initially AmigaOS 4.1 and after that probably Linux, although it will take time to get support for the XMOS in Linux I'd expect.

Why would it be in anyone's interest for it to run Linux (other than within a VM environment on it?)
Keeping AmigaOS as the native OS gives it a USP combined with the hardware USP. Just making it another linux box means it's really absolutely nothing to do with Amiga... Sure we can argue that AOS isn't Amiga until we all run out of breath, but it's *something*

Interesting I *think* XMOS was formed by former employees of my current company.

They all used to work for INMOS who developed the Amiga/Atari transputer.

I think it's more a case of they won't be able to stop it from running Linux if someone does the work to get it running which they probably will

Yeah wiki says David May from INMOS is one of the founders of XMOS and the name is a play on the name of the former company
