Would a SCSI2 hdd fit inside my A1200 and...?
I have the SCSI kit 4 on my Blizzard 1260. Would a SCSI2 hdd fit inside the A1200 if I connect one? I guess there are no 2.5" SCSI drives?
Is it really worth it? A friend told me he could send a 40gb SCSI2 hdd. |

I think you would be better off putting a larger SCSI hard drive in an External case of some kind and connecting it via a cable - I just think it would be too much aggravation to fit a large hard drive into an A1200... but in saying that, I bet it has been done.

Low profile HD was used in A1200 before. A friend of mine used a half height 840Mb (not Gb!) IDE drive inside his A1200.
Of course, the SCSI must have terminators in both ends of the chain.

Early IBM thinkpads also used them. I've got about 20 of them plus five 2.5" SCSI->2.5" IDE adapters.
But never found a source of cables to go from the 40-pin 2.5" SCSI connector to 50 pin (?) Amiga SCSI.

Would you get a SCSI->IDE adapter + 3.5"->2.5" IDE adapter inside an A1200 desktop?

alexh, easily. Far more easily than a 3.5" HDD anyway, which I don't recommend to anyone. Even if you can get them new, which is hard. SCSI-IDE adapter from Vesalia+$2 IDE-CF adapter from Hong Kong+Sandisk Extreme IV 2GB = MUUUCH faster.
I made a slot in the left side to let the CF card stick out for easy backup/updating, but with the wisdom of hindsight, I recommend just filing a notch in the top half's edge to pull the IDE cable through, and screwing the CF-adapter to the left side of the case. Less work and much easier to insert/remove the card. Good luck! CF cards are... WROOM! lovely

That is the technique I used. I epoxy glued mine to the PCMCIA connector and increased the PCMCIA slot a few mm with a set of very fine files and sand paper. Looks factory made.

some scsi 3.5 hardrives are small in height and can be installed in the A1200
and can fit well... The best site on the A1200 case to adapt the hardrive is the top-left corner |
