I had the megadrive first but then my japanese mate showed me a super famicom and i was blown away, i really wanted to keep both but at the time i could only afford one and ended selling off my megadrive for a super famicom. I have a lot of great memories with both machines but the super famicom in the end just had more and better games though the Megadrive still had many many great games ... in the end equal due to sega`s awesome game library.

The Snes slowdown i recall was normally a case of not properly understanding the machine as was with Irem at the time- R-type and Gradius are good early examples while a game like Super Aleste or Contra3 more than proved Snes capable at frenetic action in a shooter type

It was something of a struggle for some companies at first working on Snes- Magic Sword from Capcom being another good example as is the Thunderforce conversion.Could there have been an even more impressive pretty Thunderforce in the form of an exclusive Snes version- i rather think there could have been, though Gunstar might be pushing it

Ignoring all the tech specs...

Here are a few of the reasons why i like the Megadrive:

Sonic
Toejam & Earl
Streets of Rage 1 &2 (they cocked up the European release of SoR 3 )
Gunstar Heroes
Phantasy Star games
Shining Force 1 & 2
Robocop VS Terminator
Mortal Kombat 1, 2 and 3
Greendog
Columns
Decap Attack
Eternal Champions
Mercs
Vapor Trail
Castlevania Bloodlines
Vectorman 1 & 2
Splatterhouse 2 & 3
Haunting
Cool Spot
Cyborg Justice
Batman Returns
California Games 1 & 2
Gauntlet IV
Golden Axe 1, 2 & 3
The Immortal
Road Rash 1, 2 & 3.... and many many more.....

Now for some games i like on the Snes:

Bomberman
Final Fantasy 2 & 3
Killer Instinct
F-Zero
Chrono Trigger
Secret of Mana
Secret of Evermore
Breath of Fire 1 & 2
Earthbound
Terranigma
Shadowrun (the Megadrive version looked better but i prefer this one )
Lagoon
Unirally
Starwing
Wing Commander
Barts Nightmare
Doom
Doom Troopers
Megaman games
Ys III
Zombies Ate My Neighbours
Weaponlord.... and more!

Some people may think some of these games are crap but i liked them there are loads more i enjoyed on both platforms but cannot be bothered to think of them all

I did not mention Mario as i've not enjoyed it since Super Mario Bros 3 on the old Nes

There is pirate/bootleg version of Donkey Kong Country for MegaDrive. It's similar to SNES game but special chip(s) inside cartridge are not needed... You can watch it here: [ Show youtube player ]

Except for the nice parallax scrolling, it's not that special. But yes, you won't find a game like Splatterhouse on the SNES

There are no special chips in any of the Donkey Kong Country games on SNES.
Btw, Super GameBase is still slowly progressing.
Due to a lack of time it's not happening as fast as I'd like it to.
Oh and thanks to the new v1.3 frontend all games are now converted to 7z archives which shaves off a good 300mb in total.

(SuperFX Chip)
The SuperFX chip uses RISC architecture and contains a mathematical processor and houses its own CPU. This chip was used in some 2D games like Donkey Kong Country to create special effects like lighting and to create the mist seen in some of the levels. Mainly it was built to create 3D environments made completely of polygons that used texture mapping and light source shading. Some of the games that use the SuperFX chip are Starfox, Stunt Race FX, and Dirt Trax FX

Heh, okay Some fairly creepy stuff in there

@s2325
I've heard that DKC2 had the SuperFX 2 chip, but I think Retroplay is correct about DKC not having any extra chips.

Nope, DKC2 has no Super FX chip, Super Mario World 2 - Yoshi's Island does.

Okay, then it's another 'Urban Myth' that DKC2 featured the SuperFX2 chip to display the mist effects. Can't find any evidence now either

Ok... I know it's a well known bit of music but it's still great.

I have been playing Comix Zone on the MD - great game!
