That depends on the Amiga, operating system and file system you want to use it on

I've got a 40GB HD on my 4000D OS3.9+BB1+BB2

It's not about recognition, but how much of it you can use. If you don't want to know anything else, keep all the partitions within the first 4GB of the drive and you'll be fine.

No, you can have 2 x 1.99 GB partitions without any problems. If you make 4 x 2GB you'll definitely get problems.

Read that link posted - you can use the full 8GB with either SFS 1.84 or patching the Workbench FFS with TD64/direct-scsi. That is without replacing the scsi.device, so you really don't have to do anything difficult, just use a different filesystem in HDtoolbox and stick to the rules (first partition in the 4GB barrier, use quick format, make sure disk utils support large disks if not don't use them on partitons past 4GB).

Even using more than 8GB isn't hard. Support will be included in the next ClassicWB.

Thomas helped me out here too: http://eab.abime.net/showthread.php?t=49027

Or you can just stick to using the first 4GB as mentioned above. It's still a lot of space for an Amiga.

This has been discussed a thousand times already. Search the other threads about using CF cards as harddrive in the Amiga. It's about the CF card identifying itself as removable device rather than fixed disk. There are PC DOS utilities to change this flag for some brands of CF cards.
