I don't mind using floppies for those old single disk A500 games but i absolutely hated them when it came to playing Monkey Island 2 or Beneath a Steel Sky

I dunno, there's something vaguely gratifying about booting the 1000 with kickstart, then a disk, then thrashing IK+ or similar . But that's pure nostalgia, rather than anything explainable or justifiable

Actually, I remember I loved watching Dragon's Lair from floppies.
Just the thought of the data streaming from floppy to a fullscreen video was impressive at the time...

SWIV impressed me with disk loading routines. I also fancy Rubicon because of the sound the drive made as the background to the played music (it sounded almost like a fifth channel

I hated floppy disks on 199x

but now I love them
I recently made some floppys and I printed the stickers with my epson printer using HOL' floppy scans

I play from floppy on my A1200 the games that are only 1 disk or 2

for example I love Turrican 3 cracked by Wanted Team (1 disk only)
I really recommend that Turrican 3 crack over any hardisk version

I impressed some people with the Turrican 3 1 disk version
they can't believe the speed, the music, the game..they can't believe how this thing can run from 1 floppy
it 's fast like a cartridge !!!!

also I play Z-out (aga fixed) 1 disk only..exceptional crack..recommended

Call me strange but I don't really 'get' the whole WHDLoad thing, at least not if you're using WinUAE - the games which came on loads of disks almost always had HD installs anyway, and using ADF or IPF files in WinUAE is a doddle with the disk swapper thing.

I can see the attraction if you're using a real Miggy though...

Even with warp it's slower than using WHDLoad And using the disk swapper isn't as convient as never needing to change one

@TCD

Now you're using WHDLoad, does that mean no more JAmiga? I'm still using that...

Plus WHDLoad adds some nice features that the original games never had, e.g. highscore saver, cheats, color palette fixes, 2nd or more extra buttons mapped with useful game controls etc.

Nope, but for games that use more than 4 disks I'm really using it Plus, there is no need to not use it with WHDLoad games Maybe I'll write a short tutorial about that someday

Most 4+ games have ingame saves anyway. I'm not saying that floppies or ADFs are bad, but it really depends on the game I play MI2 Amiga with ScummVM...

Absolutely. I can't face playing any game of floppies anymore really. Too slow and tedious for me. Generally if I have no option but to play from floppy I won't bother.

Interesting, there is almost nobody who likes floppies. Of course, it is not surprising.

I am weird maybe, but I liked Hired guns from floppies. The smart routine asked for exact disk and told you, which disk you should prepare next (or insert just now to you other drive) as well!

I also was happy holding the box full of floppies, browsing them and deiciding what to play. It was better feeling than just browsing the drawer on my CF card containing hundreds of installed games. Of course, I like WHD much much much, but sometimes I miss FDD.

I only play from floppies for a nostalgic effect.
Only games I really play are Lotus 2 and speedball 2 from floppy and that's only for the cracks/cheats/money/time etc.

Only if I get a new game and it is needed by SPS will I play it from floppy to check it. Then of course the floppy is needed to make the dump.

As already mentioned above, I also mainly use WHDload.

I must admit that I rediscovered my FDD some months ago.
But only for nostalgic reasons and original copies.
E.g. Turrican 3!

I might be wrong, but right now I barely recall a couple of A500 games that could be installed on an A500 without the aid of WHDLoad (never tried WHDLoad on an A500, but I read it's possible) and considering I had practically lost the little interest I had in video games by the time the A1200 came out, I can't say I actually enjoyed them in any other way

I know that I'm kinda cheating, but http://hol.abime.net/hol_search.php?...re=11&N_hd=yes
However I have installed quite a few of those on WinUAE with a A500 HD setup and no WHDLoad.
