Here is a interesting trend that I hope continues.

The FAQ for the Amiga application Digital Almanac III states that the developer was asked to port this program to Windows but instead of doing this he just told PC users to get WinUAE or Amithlon! He then goes on to list the specs and requirements for the program, on Amiga at least a 68020 on PC at least a 500Mhz box. I hope this trend from developers continues. Whenever someone asks for a PC port of a popular Amiga application the developer recommends WinUAE and keeps coding for Amiga OS.

This rules!

UAE might in fact become Philosophically like what AmigaDE is trying to push. Write once run anywhere but this time under the real Amiga OS!

So Pyro, have you purchased this title? The price isn't bad when you look at $45 USD, but I guess in some ways, I can see why he doesn't want to port it to other OS's, but, my feeling is that Astronomy apps don't seem to have much of an audience. This one does appear to have a lot more features then say, Distant Suns, but again unless you wanna become the next Carl Sagan or perhaps my brother I can't see much demand unless it does get ported to another platform.

But hey, I understand what the author and you are saying, lets help keep the Amiga alive and kicking for decades to come

It does seem to be a rather limiting attitude (in terms of getting his work out there); but you've got to love his audacity!

But it could just be another great way of keeping Amiga going...

and spreading the word

I see no problem with what he has done, he was kind enough to provide them with a solution such that the program will work on pc's, thats that... if you want to run the program natively get an amiga

Of course I'm thinking the author is not in this for the money or he would have sold out to some other publisher by now, so there is something to be said about sticking to ones principals

Thanks for the kind words, I am thinking about buying it but like you said its a Astronomy app and I have not done that since College. Might not hurt to help the guy out though since he is cool.

Yes but I dont seem to find the trend of buying whatever shit comes out as a nice one. The guy surely is cool for supporting such a platform, but if he comes up with a poop program, or something I don't need, I don't bother. Some programmers, (I've seen this on the C64 scene) always threaten to not produce anymore software for XXX machine if people don't buy their software... This is extortion IMO...

If the guy really deserves it and you need it or want it, go ahead and buy it. But I wouldn't buy a "Recipe Organization" program just because someone programmed it today for the Oric 1, and he charges 60 dollars for it.

It's not like I don't buy anything... For example I preordered Metal Dust (A SuperCPU-only C64 shmup), and I dont even own the hardware required to play it. And the game's not out yet! But the project seemed nice to me so I thought I needed to support it

But if it was said Recipe Organizator (We could call it the Recipetor64), I wouldn't even touch it That's why I never bought Apano Sin... It turned out to me a mildly average game.

Edit: besides, if you support crap, you are bound to receive more crap later. look at PCs, full of crap
