I know: another adaptor!

An adaptor to use in one adaptor to use in another one...

But SD cards are indecently cheap compared with CF units...

Why just not buy something like this or this?

They're cheaper than a SD-to-CF adapter and will most certainly work better than an adapter into another one

I bought the SD/MMC/whatever PCMCIA some time ago.

Did think in buying another direct adaptor since I already have a IDE 44 pin-2-CF here.

I bought those adapters when I was at Japan, and I can say they work fine. I'm using them on my A600 without problems.
And they were more cheap... :P

Not all of these adapters are compatible with the Amiga. Which ones work is anyone's guess without a recommendation from someone who has tried them.

The IDE>CF adapter is cheap than the IDE>SD, but CF cards are miles expensive than a humble SD of whatever size.

That's why I prefer SD over CF.

I'll probably get that IDE-to-SD on my next order on DX to put it in my A1200.

I'll probably do some nice speedtests (I have a IDE-to-CF currently) when I get one

I've had 3 kinds (2GB cards) and they were slow as molasses... both in PC and Amiga.

Writing files at light speed is a must? Most of the times the Amiga will only read the device to load something (Workbench itself or games).

Why worry about twice the time for writing?

The magic word here is "cheap".

Nevertheless, It depends on wich SD card you use. I have a Kingston micro SD card that do the job almost as a CF card... but only on read...
Of course, on writing It loses all that speed :P

OK, another thing I thinking about: so far I didn't read no one telling the devices are not compatible, that some brands cannot be used/recognized, etc.

So I think this thing is a lazy "winner": no stunning writing/reading speeds, but all times it works and it is cheap.

Thing I want to know: how "slow" the assembled unit is. Slow as writing on floppy? Slow as booting from a 15k RPM sub-1Gb SCSI HD on an A500 without FAST RAM? Slow as 300bps serial transfers? Stupid as Atari users? Inquiring minds must know!

As I said, It depends on the SD card itself... but It's always faster than a floppy, at least on my A600.
I guess It could be as fast as the slowest CF, or even a bit more fast.
There are some SD cards that runs near to a decent CF on read operations, but for writing they are much slower.
I have to mention that the PCMCIA adapter is a bit slow compared to the other kind of adapters, always using the same SD cards, of course. Maybe It's a driver's fault.
Now I'm using an special CF, designed for embedded aplications, and It's fast as hell, so I can't make a fair comparation.
