More colours? Bigger icons? What is 'better'?

For the WB's default ones delete the disc.info in the root of the Partition
Or use IconCopy to change them to your prefererd ones

The icon sizes are fine, more colors would be nice, just generally slicker icons would make it much nicer, I think theres a desktop thread somewhere on EAB, I'll find it and post back what icons I like.

Well, more than 256 colour icons would be RTG only, so that's why they aren't 'default'. Guess you have to create your own ones then

There was one post on the thread of a guy who used a low amount of colors and got a nice effect. Not sure what icon set he used though.

This program can be used to copy the icon images from one icon to another one.

I'll assume you have downloaded a few icon packs already. They should be relatively easy to find. Not too sure if you're after icons for the game themselves (GlowIcons) or icons for the folders in which they are enclosed (folder & drives ones).

This is my Workbench on my A1200 with 030 50Mhz and 16Mb fast ram.
I use my amiga on a TV and therefore the resolution is INTERLACED, but I use a tool called MagicTV (from aminet) which reduces flickering so much you don't even notice it. It is unbelivable... the only drawbacks are only 16 colours and sprite doesn't have proper colours... but as you can see it looks pretty (I like it simple, not too flashy, but with nice icons) :

I want it to look exactly like this!

Installation:

If you plan to use these images, you need the NewIcons Package.
Is that what I have at the moment?

There's a world between having a basic yet functional WB, and customizing to the extreme like some EAB dudes do.

Furthermore, you're not even pointing at an emulated one.
Same goes with Windows, I guess. While some people don't even bother changing Windows's default screen saver, others would visually modify their desktop with advanced shell replacements which would make it unrecognizable (LiteStep...); And if you installed those by yourself, that would make your desktop appaling and completely unusable .

You would put a lot of effort into it for a neglectable marginal gain in usability. I know some people hate it when I speak this way, because they think I am trying to get you to do things my way (OS 3.9...), but believe me it's not the case.

Can't see that a installing a different NewIcons set is a 'lot of effort'. If Kitty wants to have her icons look like the ones on tomcat666's screenshot, why not? I don't think that has anything to do with usability.

As you probaly noticed by a lot of my posts by now, I'm a bit of a perfectionist (maybe even a little extreme), I cant help it, its just the way I am
