Rainbow Islands and Parasol Stars are actually not amiga originals. On other hand - quite good conversions.

No, but they're on the Amiga, and they're good, thus good amiga platformers. If we're going to only bring up Amiga originals in everything, then we might not have very many games left to brag about on the Amiga. Secret of Monkey Island and Leisure Suit Larry weren't Amiga originals either, but I still consider them Amiga games.

The best none Sega/Nintendo platformers are the (most) MD Disney games, Hudson's Adventure Island series, Wonder Boy series, Konami's Tiny Toon Adventures and the Bonk series. Apart from this you find tons of mediocre console platformer, mediocre in controls AND gameplay.

Check the Japanese SNES game library, there you find some real platformer gems (e.g. The Violinist of Hameln or Umihara Kawase)

I've always considered it strange that Sonic is counted alongside the Mario games as an equal. To me, Sonic has always been a very good looking average platformer with an interesting gimmick. Nothing more.

EDIT: Haha! Just noticed one of the tags

Sonic is different. It's surely a platformer, yet it plays different to a 'normal' platformer. Either you like it or you aren't impressed at all Maybe it was only planned to show the speed advantage of the MD compared to the SNES, but still I really enjoy 'dashing' through the levels

I think you've possibly nailed it right there. It seems to be saying 'look how fast we can make a game go'...erm, now let's build a game around it.

I always had the feeling that i don't have the full controls over Sonic during the dashes/loopings. Konami did it a lot better in Tiny Toon Adventures: Buster's Hidden Treasure.

TBH I find these discussions quite tedious, because everyone has its own taste after all It's fun to see some people go quite nuts about certain statements nonetheless (not you Dastardly or Retro )

I know what you're saying. These discussions are pointless and can never solve anything, but that's not the point. None of my 'real life' friends are into any of this, so if I wanna discuss why I think game A is better than game B, and why your opposing opinion is quite clearly 'wrong', then here is where I come.

If you can't discuss this stuff here, then where?

Wonder Boy is actually Sega title.

Umihara Kawase is not typical platform game actually.

Alien Soldier, Gunstar Heroes, Aero The Acrobat, Generation Lost, Zero The Kamikaze Squirrel are not Sega titles and are not mediocre at all.

Anyway, it will always be battle like this:

Amiga: I have great game Ruff'n'Tumble
SMD: I have even greater Gunstar Heroes

No winner this time

No, it's only published by Sega. It's a Westone series.

It is, much more than the Run'n'Gun games like Gunstar Heroes. I win. Tadaa!!

Exactly, so NOT developed by Sega. Sega published a lot of 3rd party games, that's not the point.

Sonic is developed for the MD/Genesis and converted for the SMS and GameGear. Also speed-wise the MD is faster than the SNES regardless of the superior GFX and sound chip of the SNES.
