New post indicators are image-only

I quite often find myself browsing with images being turned off (whenever I'm connected via GPRS). Unfortunately, the images next to the forum names and next to the thread titles indicating whether there have been new posts don't seem to have any alternative texts, so there is no way to see which topics are worth checking out. The same problem occurs on the mobile skin: There don't seem to be any such indicators at all there. Setting any sort of characters (a > or something would be enough) as alternative text for those images would be greatly appreciated!

The problem still exists. Surely it would not be so hard to open one template file to quickly add an alt attribute (which is mandatory according to the HTML standard anyway) to these images? In case this matters: I'm using the "EAB2" skin.
