Amiga Joysticks to USB

Hi all,

First proper post and I bet this has been asked a thousand times already, so apologies but has anyone come across an adapter for plugging amiga joysticks (prefereably two of them so I can cane my Brother on SWOS)

I've done a load of searching but hit dead ends!

Playing on a Playstation to usb adapter at the moment but nothing compares to playing with a Zipstik which I still have in my attic

Extreme amounts of kudos to anyone who can deliver the grail!

Hi eggmeister and welcome to EAB!

Have a look here : http://eab.abime.net/showthread.php?t=16688 (especially the last posts)
This is what you need : http://www.vesalia.de/e_4playeradapter.htm (you need a paralell port though)

Thanks dudes, I have a USB pad I could hack to bits and and I like the enclosures, Although I don't have a parrallel port available.

I'm also toying with the idea of breaking a 2 player PS adapter and piggybacking the db9 connectors on it, will reportback when i'm successful (or blown my PC up!)

Good luck with that, eggmeister!

Just remember to come back and ask again if you are not sure of anything and your PC should be safe.

Hi Lads,

Gave up on the usb idea!, got a parallel card and a parallel to db9 converter from vesalia to plug my zipstils into and despite winuae seeing them, it will not work.
They are picked up in the controller section in control panel but not in winuae!!

Any ideas?

You have chosen the joystick for 'Port 1' in WinUAE and it does nothing right? In the control panel you can see the buttons and stick positions working?

Yeah, selected the joystick in port 1 and also tried both parallel joystick options with no luck.

Strange also that when I go into controller options and try the sticks out they only I can rotate them once and then they stop showing the direction, unless I press the fire button and then I can do it once again!

I forgot to mention that I'm using the 4 player adapter plugged into a PCI parallel card and not an on the the motherboard connection, but that shouldn't make any difference should it?

I still say slaughter a USB joypad and attach up/down/left/right and fire to the circuit board inside. Most USB pads have a Nintendo style "hat switch" (digital thumb +) - those with *only* analog thumbsticks won't do!

No, a serial adapter won't work.
Follow the links above to some working adapters, or search yourself for one, which claims to work for C64 or Amiga, Atari, Megadrive/Genesis....
