I would like to see re-makes of Mr Do and Quo Vadis from the C64. I know you lot might think FFS, but these were two games of my C64 days that I always went back too. Could you imagine how much better and bigger these games could be.

Look at the Bruce Lee re-make, now that's just awesome + they didn't add any extra bells and whistles, they kept it almost the same except for the GFX & SFX, awesome

Hey baby...

I want to see, so I can play
a new version of Wings of Fury
and not Birds of Prey

The game would be cool
as you now could use teh nuke
making all tiny people drool
and die from too much puke

(bad english intended, and I know of the WoF remake, but I don't like that one)

Definitely 2d scrolling beat em ups. Streets of Rage and Final Fight rock.

And then 2d platformers.

There's some decent "2D with 3D engine help" games out there -

Nippon Ichi's offerings on the PS2 are great strategy-RPG hybrids with wicked sense of humor. Disgaea in particular is a favorite.

BlazBlue is an amazing pure 2D fighter on the PS3 and Xbox 360 - since this is my favorite genre I was psyched to see the spiritual successor to Guilty Gear.

They're out there but there needs to be more. Imagine the crazy expansiveness you could make in 2D with today's horsepower.

Most of these remakes are pretty horrible, usually with crappy gameplay and hi-res gfx that kill the original atmosphere of the games and don't bring much in the end.

The worst being 2d games remade in 2,5d with atrocious gameplay, less than approximative collisions, slipping characters and general bad taste all around.

Note that hi-res gfx are much harder/longer to draw than lo-res ones especially when there's a lot of them that's probably why most of them look dashed off or are made from slightly reworked cold 3d scenes.
Also it's tricky to do smooth 2d scrollings on PC, due to different refreshing frequencies and variable framerates.

demakes can be fun too.

We don't want to rush it out and have it be yet another mediocre game comparable to the 5-minute online Flash games.

I think if you really want the type of games you used to play you need to make them yourself, or help someone else who is already working on them.
Any blog or development diary we could read?

There are a few games i would like to see "ressurected" but i would like them to retain the same "feel"... something which is lost in the new Monkey Island re-make

Cannon Fodder
Dizzy
IK+
Chaos Engine
Road Rash
Abandoned Places
Goblins
It Came from the Desert
Moonstone
North and South....

.....and the list could go on

EoB, Perihelion, Elvira kind of games, mixed up, with as few colors possible but in high definition, sounds, speech and music, with a great (yet quick and no megalomaniac) story.

I suppose it's a matter of personal preference/taste? I happen to like Abandoned Places 1+2 and i also liked Eye of the Beholder, Black Crypt, Ishar, Drakkhen, Ambermoon and other RPG's.... I used to have a bit of an addiction when it came to RPG's on the Miggy a few years back
