What types of games would like to see ressurected?

In theses days of high polys 3D graphics, neural AI, ragdoll 3D physics, I still would prefer to see "SIMPLE" 2D games to be mainstream again, I think we don't need raytracing capable games to enjoy gaming, i think quite the contrary!
Of the games i would like to see on game shops again, i would like games:

1) case by case RPG games, the likes of dungeon master, eob2 and lands of lore 1; just make them use high defintion hand drawn graphics, speech and mp3 style music and i am sold;

2) platforming 2d games, the likes of shinobi, gods and turrican, a sequel of arcade shinobi, even a "data disc", a gods 2 and i'll buy;

3) Adventure games, make a beneath a steel sky 2 (in hand drawn 2d please) and dream comes true;

What are your dream sequels? or dream type of games you'd like to see?

PS: i forgot to mention a flashback 2!

I agree with 2D RPGs and adventure games... imagine the 2D graphics we can have today, could look so beautiful. Not that graphics is everything, but in all this 3D we have... it would be nice to have some awesome 2D again.

If I had to pick one, it would definitely be 2d platformers, Amiga's safest bet. Adventure games would come next, and as for RPG games, well, never played one, but all that gossip and shopping always seemed horribly gay to me (no offense to RPG fans ) so it's gotta be a no no.

No hope for 2D platformers, just see those crappy freeware flash platform games. No atmosphere, basic graphics, techno music...

If a game is fun it doesn't matter what technology/graphics or whatever it uses. For some people it is about escapism, 3D dungeon crawlers would obviously be better than 2D ones, EOTB, DM, BW and other similar games are based around 3D, it is not 2D! If you want a 2D dungeon crawler go play Nethack.

There are plenty of 2D/retro game being made today, so ***** sake, stop moaning and get playing!

I wouldn't mind a Flashback 2 though, but even if a game came out with that title, it just wouldn't be the same. It is like someone writing a sequel to a book written by someone else, very lame...

I played/tested some platform games for phones with Java, very bad experience. I don't want something like that anymore.

I don't want a low budget, cheap 'retro' 2D game, I want a a big budget, big release 2D game. Which is very unrealistic.

It's meant to be simple and fast as it's a highscore game (the highscore just got changed to a new one)

I like it, cool idea and cool level design, too.

Problem is I suck at it I can't even submit my scores, they're terrible.

EDIT - third place

Adventures for sure Actually the episodish ones aren't that bad, so I'm not complaining too much.
Platformers... yeah sure, why not Actually Braid isn't a very good example skatey, because it's much more a puzzle game than a platformer (far too easy for that).
About 2D RPGs... besides that it's 'gearing' and not shopping and you have far more gossip in an adventure Maren , I really don't mind them being 3D. A bit more dungeon crawling would be nice though

Braid is just a lovely game ! Now you're talking about a simple game that has just
PURE art graphics ! It's like playing while watching paintings. I love that style

I would like an improved version of Warlords... better AI and a map editor with the added functions of that Troops/Production editor that was written and available on Aminet...

I didn't like what they did in Warlords II etc...

I like the exploring type of games.

And yes, graphics and music don't make a game better than the level of its gameplay and ideas. So developing with test graphics until it's fun even with black and white blocks makes sure it's fun with the proper graphics

But graphics and music can help draw the player into the game and "experience" it, maybe even dream away... graphics and music just for entertainment don't, tho.

And yes, more studios should consider "degrading the high end gfx" to fit a new visual style of a game, instead of constantly following whatever new shader tricks and algorithms emerge from the industry. But gfx cards/consoles are standardized and programmers are busy keeping up and unable to go their own way. See my post here http://eab.abime.net/showthread.php?...d=1#post582970

Certainly a lot of fun stuff could be had with just a framebuffer with 2D/isometric/custom 3D/etc!

All PD platformers being bad doesn't mean yours will, gogogo! Certainly, platformers can be much more fun than other standardized genres, like shootemups. Those were you can do more than shoot and jump are more fun to me. (Throw stuff, jump into a tank, swing in lianas, go into houses...)

Also, I think a lot of people would love sequels in the form of well-designed new levels. So for games that people already love because they're already perfect fun, with just some new levels and a lot of playtesting you could have a cracking sequel real quick... you could even keep most or all of the level gfx

Me, I gave serious thought to hacking the level design of Marble Madness when I had that arcade cab. Some games are just so lovely you want more and more and more

I'm on a team who have been working on a new platform adventure game for the Amiga for a while now. It's still got a long way to go before it's completed, but that's because we want it to be the best game we can make. We don't want to rush it out and have it be yet another mediocre game comparable to the 5-minute online Flash games.

I think if you really want the type of games you used to play you need to make them yourself, or help someone else who is already working on them.

There are some new pseudo 2d platform games in production, Trine for example (which is on steam at the moment as well). Admittedly it uses a 3d engine to display a 2d perspective (not unlike Street Fighter 4), but it shows that there is still a love of the 2d perspective. The last properly 2d games I recall playing were back on the PSX (Heart of Darkness being one of them - very reminiscent of Another world/flashback)

There has been a big resurgence of remaking old point and click games of late with both the Sam and Max and Wallace and Grommit Steam episodic games, and now Monkey Island getting a once over with high definition graphics on both the PC and XBLA.

I did take a look at the new Sam and Max, and the new Monkey Island demo, but i hated the 3D graphics and animations, the colours are not vibrant, and the models seems not texture mapped, just coloured!
And the concept of episodes, i don't like that; i would like a big 2D new Monkey Island game, no episodes; and 3 years after, another monkey game, and so on;

Any one here have played Zyclunt (blade warrior)?

Not going to happen and we all know that. Actually after Ron being out and that awful MI4 I think it's not a good idea anyway.
