Did I make a stupid purchase?

I bought this item on ebay (Amiga 1200/30 32 meg ram board+40mhz) last night thinking that it was an 030 acellerator as it has 32Mb RAM where the 1200 can only address 8Mb with the 020, also why would a RAM board have a 40Mhz crystal?.. Was I right - or have I just made a foolish purchase? (I was very drunk at the time)

It must be an 030 accelerator card... see if you can find out any other details from the seller about the card...a model number for example... it could be an Elbox card.

And he asks us? Just ask the seller!?? hehe

It looks to me as if you have a 68030 on the underside, see solderpattern. Or at least a socket for one Looks like an accelerator board to me.

In my opinion it's the Elbox 1230-II:

http://www.amiga-resistance.info/bbo...944&artlang=de

Crystal is for speed of optional FPU.

congrats on your drunken purchase.

[edit]

You are right about the Apollo... it seems exactly the Winner 1230 version, coming from Act/Apollo/Elbox family.

you should be, and for about £5 on Amigakit you can add the second simm port so you can have 64MB of ram, also Amigakit sell 50mhz Osc (14pin DIL) for about £5 too so whoot

if you are taking the QFP030 upto 50 though, I would suggest a cooling heatsink, one from those chipset or memory heatsinks.

Alas - I have no more money to spend on Amiga this month... So all upgrades like FPU, Osc, etc can now wait till payday Still - it is by far the cheapest I have seen one of these boards go for recently!

Maybe all your purchases should be done whilst intoxicated. Looks like you can find the bargain of the month that way. Nice purchase mate! You make me feel jealous

Think I'll try that tonight, I may be able to purchase a fully working A1200 for 10p

It clearly says 1200/30 upgrade in the description, plus shows an accelerator in the pics so I'm not sure why you were confused.

Great purchase. Will be even better with a ClassicWB.

You'll probably get it for free!

I don't think you made a stupid purchase - it will definitely speed up your Amiga. I bought a DKB Cobra (68030) and love the thing - I have a 64MB SIMM on it, works like a charm. It maps it properly so you can still use PCMCIA (I have an ethernet card connected to mine). And remember, all the best ebay purchases ever made have been made after a few pints of beer.

As it turns out - it WAS a good purchase.. I am more than happy with it, and the price was good too!

I had to short the WAIT jumper to make it work correctly - I gather that this slows the RAM access down a touch - how much performance am I losing due to this? I'm also going to put a 50MHz crystal on it to replace the 40MHz one - but not for a week or two yet!

Had one many moons ago, on a 1200. I found this helped any problems.

Mine had also scsi bit, which was connected to a squirrel. That with memory was a tight fit on the board. Card seemed heavy i remember when fully loaded.

Trapdoor would never shut, and would be very bent if it did. Had to use rubber feet on the board to the desk top keep it aligned and in position for the amiga. And small surface rubber feet on the amiga to stop both from sliding. With the trapdoor always off let the heat escape, the card did get hot.

Maybe you can offer a service here, where others pay for you to get drunk. then you bid on their behalf for what they need.

Good value for money. Not overly expensive, not dirt cheap.

Other 030 accelerators can be found cheaper but they tend to be 24-bit version (which have a maximum of 8Mbytes RAM and conflict with PCMCIA)
