This thread reeks of old men refusing to move on

Name one game on the Amiga A500 that has aged well. There are some good games, but fuck me they all look like they were made a couple of decades ago.

edit - but a lot which work but have problems
Doubt it, PS2 had the actual PSX hardware inside it, if a game worked it worked without any problems at all.

Oh yes the ps1 graphics do look terrible on my plasma screen Been a while since i last used Sony's old little beast These consoles were so easy to mod too!

It is pretty much impossible to find a mod chip for a ps1 these days but i have a spare pre-modded ps1 motherboard and a "PS1 Hacker" cartridge that plugs into the rear i/o parallel port... made by ems i believe?

I would just keep a CRT tv for some older consoles and the ps1 has got some great games... i would never get rid of mine

Another two exception: Tobal No 1 and Tobal 2 still look absolutely fantastic on PS1 even in this day and age. And they are 3D games!

The first Colin Mcrae Rally game on PS1 is still excellent as is TOCA Racing - I still play both these racers - I remember being amazed at how sh*t Ridge Racer looked though when I played it again...!

Actually my PSOne looks great on my 1 Philips monitor...

Ridge Racer Type 4 still holds up brilliantly though. As does TOCA 2 (my favourite PlayStation racing game).

When you get old like us, you won't be able to make out the imperfections so clearly either!

There is an official list of notworking games, only few (not more than 10). Edit about problems - I read it on some forum but wouldnt take it too seriously either.

Heh, fair enough. The problem with PSX games is that the 3D used looks really bad compared to any recent 3D game. 2D games like Rayman 'feel' much better... like Amiga games

A whole tube!! nice I have about 2 or 3 modded ps1's laying around and a spare ps1 motherboard with mod chip installed and a few other spare ps1 bits and pieces.... just in case

One of the ps1's i purchased a while ago from Evilbay came with a blue odd shaped cartridge that fits into the back of the ps1's parallel expansion port. It allows the ps1 to play imports and backups without actually opening up your ps1 and modding the hardware. It also acts as a cheat cartridge and is made by the same company (EMS) who created the "all in one" action replay for the Saturn. I never even knew these existed back then as i never saw one On the label it says "PS1 HACKER" a nice plug-mod

I modded many a ps 1 back in the day...could do em with my eyes closed practicaly.

Those cartridges are usualy accompanied by a spring thats sits between the ps 1 lid and the sensor switch...ou had to do the swap trick with them (boot with an original game or action replay/gameshark cd, the swap at the psx logo).

Yep thats right it comes with a spring with a plastic cap that you place between the lid and CD drive button.... The only other mod that i can find that looks the same as this is the "Game Hunter" for the ps1. With the switch on it loads a boot menu with various options and this is where you take out the original CD and replace it with a backup then press start.... easy

With the switch turned off it "fast boots" original games (cuts out the ps1 boot sequence) which is handy

And what does F1GP look like, realism personified

Lets face it, all of us would sooner sit down with a few Amiga games rather than PSX games, thats why we are here, but the rationale for this thread is totally swung by rose tinted Amiga branded spectacles.

The only things that have aged worse than the Amiga is stuff made by Atari.

I beg to differ, my PS 1 gets as much workout as my other ageing computers/consoles...even you must have enjoyed it at one stage.
