Rocket Ranger doesn't work in WinUAE if NTSC refresh is selected

Hi folks,

I found what I believe is a compatibility bug in WinUAE. All tests were done against WinUAE 1.52 and 1.60 b19.

Config:
Quickstart settings, A500 - 1.3 ECS, 1mb chip.

Under chipset settings and the chipset panel, make sure "NTSC" is selected. Use the amiga disks available from Cinemaware.com.

Result:
Game will load and drop to the workbench and not prompt for disk two.

Now, go back to the same settings after a restart but this time do not select "NTSC".

Result:
Game will load and run as expected.

Hopefully, someone else will confirm this strange bug.

Perhaps region lock? It is rare but some Amiga games have it.

Any ideas on how I could verify if this is the case? I use to play Rocket Ranger on A500 NTSC and never ran into this problem.

If this comes from archive CW_Rranger_Amiga.zip then WinUAE is behaving normally. I've just tried it on my A500 and the results match your description. I conclude we're talking 2 different copies of the same game.

The archive name is CW_Rranger_Amiga.zip. However, I don't understand how you are able to conclude WinUAE is working "normally"?

I also tried these images with the same result:

Rocket Ranger (1988)(Mirrorsoft)(De)(en)[censored][1533].zip
Rocket Ranger (1988)(Mirrorsoft)[1641].zip
Rocket Ranger (1991)(Mirror Image)(De)(en)[censored][budget][1534].zip
Rocket Ranger (1991)(Mirror Image)[budget][1640].zip

Because I put the first ADF onto a real DD floppy disk and put this disk into a real NTSC Amiga and it failed to load. Then put machine into 50Hz mode using Degrader program, rebooted and the program did load. I saw no deviation between WinUAE and real Amiga which is my loose definition of normal.

Thanks clenched. Sounds like the NTSC version has gone the way of bitrot then. Bummer...

I had the same issue and was able to get a hold of original Rocker Ranger NTSC disks and did the WHDLoad install, works perfect in NTSC now! Uploaded to the zone, and also on my site:

Thanks, I've added it to my WHDLoad folder on the EAB FTP.
