Thanks for your work and good luck (I enjoy your games also )

but it should also compile with sas/c.
No; when it was first open sourced it did, but since then SAS/C support has been removed as part of the so-called "improvements" and I will have to re-add it before it will even compile. I've already built the original version successfully but 3.5.09 and 3.5.10 are going to be much more work to build. <sigh>

Hope it's not too much work for you.
I will make a wishlist of your suggestions but I'm not promising anything at this point. I have sources of V3.5.10 but AFAIK no binary of it was ever released, so for now the objective is just to build and release an executable of V3.5.10. Since I'll be doing this with SAS/C, a side-benefit of this work will be the re-addition of SAS/C support to the source code.

@Xenon:

Thanks for the kind words...

Aweb

AWeb is historical relic, not even close Netsurf, if we talk about compatiblity.

SDL version of Netsurf is only proof of consept, otherwise is totally useless, just like every single SDL port for 68k amigas.

xRick is SDL version of Rick Dangerous, it is not playable even with 060 66mhz

I use OWB daily under AmigaOS 4.1U2. Netsurf is very good for 68k Amigas, although you need a lot of memory. And where's that iBrowse 3.0?

no news

The Netsurf has the following features:

General:

Web standards: HTML 4.01 and CSS 2.1
Image formats: PNG, GIF, JPEG, SVG, JNG, MNG and BMP
HTTPS for secure online transactions
Unicode text
Web page thumbnailing
Local history trees
Global history
Hotlist manager (bookmarks)
Cookie manager
URL completion
Text selection
Scale view
Search-as-you-type text search highlighting
Save pages complete with images
Fast, lightweight layout and rendering engine

The OS4 version has the following features:

* ReAction-based GUI
* ARexx port
* Full drag'n'drop throughout (loading, saving, uploading, drag text selections to text input boxes, history entries to browser windows, etc)
* Load images through DataTypes (also partial support for embedded audio)
* Native clipboard support for text and images, can also save objects as IFF
* PDF output and printing (currently disabled - will return when core fixed, have requested that to be on the list for this year)

There is no point to compare it to any other 68k amiga's web browser, it is much better.

About current SDL frontend:

The SDL version is the "framebuffer" frontend. It has been repeatedly said by the core developers that this frontend is for debugging and example purposes only and is not intended to be a feature-complete frontend.

It is only possible semi modern web browser for 68k amigas:

From a modern monster PC to a humble 30MHz ARM 6 computer with 16MB of RAM, the web browser will keep you surfing the web whatever your system.

If also 68k version of Netsurf would have datatypes support it would benefit from PPC cards to improve the loading speed..

yes it does

Old volkswagen beetle has most of features of new beetle, 4 tires, windshield etc. but it is not same thing.

With netsurf sites like eab.abime.net are rendered correctly, with aweb they are not.

Surfing experience is totally diffrent, because 99% sites are rendered corrcetly with netsurf. There is no point to say that AWeb has most of features of netsurf, because result is totally different.

So, what's stopping you from doing it yourself?

If Minuous wants to work on Aweb, more power to him! I wish him every success. Trying to convince him NOT to (for whatever reasons) won't magically make him want to work on Netsurf.

True

Comparing AWeb to Netsurf is pointless, somebody who doesn't know meaning of all features, might thing that AWeb and Netsurf are somehow in same line.

Of course everybody does what he/she want to do, I doesn't have any meaning to convert Minuous to do anything.

mm. old volkswagen is philosophy, it was a simple cheap practical car that was widely produced for ages for a reason. besides it was good looking and therefore it became cult. the new pseudo replica is just nothing of this sort, it is just dumb and meant for senile sentimental dummies, it will never catch up with the original.

Feature wise maybe..
But historically, trying to port "down" larger apps to the Amiga has resulted in programs that didn't look as good and performed much much worse...

But scaling UP existing software, while maybe not getting all the bells and whistles, seems more likely to get a better performing application on lower end (68K, not counting 060's) Amigas.

Of course, Netsurf might port down well...
I look forward to both efforts and encourage ALL..
It's crazy to discourage ANY Amiga programmers nowadays.. ;-)

Of course you are right, my only point was, it is pointless to compare Netsurf to AWeb.

Netsurf is only "modern" browser wich is meant to work with 68030 30mhz equalent system.

It's sad that everything on the miggy sort of assumes you have OS5.5 or higher for it to be any fun. I don't want OS4... I want a TCP/IP stack for Workbench 3.1, and a webbrowser to go with it. After all i want a slightly retro experience. If i want to be up to date, i got the PC. It's (somewhat) up to date.

B!
