A1200:Prism2:Miamidx> DNS problems

HI,
I am trying to get my A1200 hooked up to the internet, I have the following..

>A1200 with 4mb Accelarator
>A compatable wireless card ( Linksys WPC11 802.11b PCMCIA)
>Prism2 drivers installed in Devs/Networks Directory
>MiamiDX correctly installed
>Aweb browser

So using shell (and also adding it to my startup file) I type in the setprismdefaults something like..

-setprismdefaults SSID mynet TEXTKEY textkeyhere12

Now I use the MiamiInit setup to configure the Prism2 driver, all seems fine untill it attempts to connect to my DNS server, I get a 'cannot connect to DNS server' type error.

However if I continue with the rest of the setup and Start MiamiDX with the above config..
>I can ping my router and other PC set up on the same network from the A1200
>I can Ping my Amiga from my PC

When I start Aweb and try hitting a website I get the Website not found error (Or something to that affect) I assume this is because my DNS is not set up?

Any ideas where I'm going wrong?
Thanks

hi & welcome.

i googled a bit and found a website with some pics (in german...). but i saw they have added the external DNS into their miami setup:
http://www.amiga-club.de/faq/miami_rout.html
http://www.amiga-club.de/faq/images/miami_DNS.jpg
maybe thats how it works. never done that myself

I had the exact same problem HERE turned out to be a really simple fix, still feel like a bit of a fool for missing it.

Whoops, I read that...just after giving up & hard-wiring a new network in my house!

Thanks for the advice guys.

I have added the DNS server address (2 of them) in the Miami database but still no joy!
One thing I just thought of...Do I have to have a registered version of MiamiDX?

I think it only works for 30 minutes if unregistered.

But...I'm not sure if that means 30 minutes per session, or 30 minutes in total.

When I try and ping my DNS server I notice this error being reported in my Router log...

TX TCP reset for 192.168.0.135(50627) -> 192.168.0.1(80)

Also... When I use MiamiDNSQuery to verify the DNS servers I get 'Host Name Lookup failure' error

I'm at my wits end here

Late last night I got it working!
On the socks config page I disabled SOCKS and Unchecked 'DNS forwarding box' and It all worked!

Thanks for all the advice!

I used the DNS from my external provider, this is the one I had always specified but could never ping, Until I unchecked that 'Forward DNS' box
