What if DCE donated Amiga Hardware Schematics?

Indivision as recently developed the A1200 Aga Flicker Fixer, and judging for how many users purchased it i would guess it was a huge success.
So this DCE guys are still in the active, they still build parts to other machines. In a recent visit to their site its pretty obvious the have the "know how".
http://www.dcecom.de/html/index.html

If they built and sold Amiga hardware, how much success do you think they would have?

Ps: I read somewhere they cancelled Blizzard turbo cards repair due to some upsetting Amiga users...does anyone knows anything about it?

What keeps DCE from making Amiga Stuff?
Profit, or rather the lack of it. Plus components which are no longer available.

Non. They would have to invest more money than they could ever hope to recover.

The current high prices seen on eBay for accelerators are artificial due to demand outstripping supply. But the demand is not that big. As soon as they had one production run it would push the price of ALL accelerators down to nominal.

The Indivision AGA has done just that to the Amiga scandoubler market. Before the launch, older internal scandoublers were fetching on eBay about £200... now they are fetching a more normal £50

Unlike the accelerators, Indivision scandoubler does not rely on old chips which are no longer on general sale, making production easy.

I know they upset Amiga users BY cancelling repairs and not returning the boards either.

I live in Oberhausen and talked to Thomas Dellert some time ago.
He said they still have all Amiga production devices but simply don“t want to use them.

1) I bet it is more they can't afford to use them
2) The equipment they used to produce Amiga devices almost certainly are used to do other things these days. They will not just "lying unused" in the corner of the building somewhere.

Sounds like he needs a hug and a box of chocs then

It would be interesting to know just how many Indivisions have been sold world wide - makes me wonder how big the Amiga userbase is these days... hmmm food for thought.

People who run a business like DCE do not "get in a huff". If there was enough money in it for him he would manufacture parts tomorrow.

He probably recalls how much "fun" it was back then making Amiga stuff and then the fuzzy warm feelings are ruined when he remembers much money he lost. Bound to make anyone depressed.

There's nothing wrong if your Amiga electrocutes you from time to time with 1000v- it shows it loves you by zapping you Bloody elf n safety nonsense

and a bit of lead and mercury never hurt anyone - nout out of the ordinary with licking your accelerator from time to time!

Depends what parts (if any) would be non RoHS compliant and if they had an identical alternative.

I just dont understand why dont they sell Amiga Hardware patent to some other company. They could at least make the blueprints and Mach chips programming available to the public, afterall they dont even provide repair services or replacement parts.

Yes, doing that procedure to my broken A1200 accelerator never endeared them (him?) to me, for some reason. (not that is was of any earthly use anymore, if I could have fixed it, I would have; but still ...)

I doubt VERY much they have any patents. And who's to say they havent? ACT sold the Apollo designs to Jens Schoenfeld who has just sat on them.

Because that would involve time. Time better spent doing something else. I am sure if you offered them enough money they would make the information available.

If they could, after all they may have lost them, or not be able to release for legal reasons say they don't own their designs 100%!

Might as well ask the same of VillageTronic, who are alive and well and releasing hardware for the mac and *shudder* PC, like the ViDock expresscard based graphic solution...

There's no money in it. End of story. It's so niche it's untrue...

AFAIK VillageTronic sold/gave the rights to all their Amiga stuff to former employee and father of RTG Klaus Burkert. Upon his premature death in 2001 they were passed to Tobias Seiler (aka Mastatabs) who keeps saying he's going to do something eventually through his company http://www.sophisticated-development.de

He sold me new updated MACH & CPLD chips for my Picasso IV in 2002

Ah, I didn't know that - thanks Alex. Sad to read about Klaus. Wonder if Tobias will ever do anything?

Yotoxionomai, I think they'd tell us politely to sod off.
