Call it whatever you want. Abandonware doesn't declare anything about the legal status of Amiga (or other platforms) software. There are of course legal Amiga downloads, but the most stuff isn't legally downloadable.

btw: Lemon isn't a site with legal downloads.

Downloading Amiga games legally

I initially posted this in another thread (http://eab.abime.net/showthread.php?t=41378) but I'm posting it here to reach a wider audience.

The Amiga flame (www.amigaflame.com) and Every Amiga Game Ever Released (eager.back2roots.org) websites both have lists of legally downloadable games and where to find them. Also, http://netzreport.googlepages.com/do...s_legally.html lists various websites where games can be legally downloaded.

My question is, what do these sites mean when they say "legally downloadable"? For example, the Thalion Webshrine appears to be a legal download site by the first two sites, but is classed as an "abandonware" site by the latter site.

Amiga Future, Amigaland, AMI Sector One, BttR have Licences from the right holders to make the software downloadable.

Borrowed Time i dont know. World of Classics i think no.

Doesn't matter as long as it doesn't host the files itself.

On a sitenote Atomic Cabbage Link removed due to IPF files - BippyM is back up if anyone wants to help me pad out the database some more...

Hi Enverex,

nice site you got there, but since you also host IPF's it's not allowed to link to your site here.

another illegal page.
At what stage did the original poster ask for completely legal sites? Plus I thought the whole legality of ADF distribution argument was dropped long ago with the resolution "No-one cares"?

What about "The Zone"? The whole purpose of that was for people to upload games "illegally".

Just out of curiosity, why not? I would have thought people would be happier to have those distributed than "not quite great" ADF files. Also those CAPS images are ones that I ripped myself and were sent back to me (when CAPS was still CAPS).

Andreas: Because you chimed into a conversation unnecessarily just shouting "It's illegal!" about everything which didn't help anyone.

I think I'm gonna take AC back down, heh. If I'm catching this much flak from the "Amiga community" then I don't think there's much point.

not really a problem. BttR are much better and works legal.

its helps the community many more to support the legal pages...

every webmaster invest time for a page. but the legal pages invest many time (and money) to found the right holders and get licences.

when someone would like make a illegal page... ok, not my problem when he dont spread our software. but i think the user can know which page are legal and which page are illegal.
