I could be interesting, if not much trouble to have a sample of that.
Think the .mod files are mixed in hardware

Have already recorded that track so I will post it later....

You misread- I wrote that I could make out the differences, but I couldn't tell which was which except for the last which sounded worse to me than the others.

The SBPro is the "better" card? Isn't that 8-bit compared to SB16 at 16-bits? Or am I interpreting the posts wrong?

No Qun Mang, the lot was not from "better" to "worst". They were mixed intentionally to make the guessing more difficult.

The Sb2 is an 8 bit card with 44.1Khz capability.

Sigh- misinterpreted again. I never said anywhere I expected them to be in order. I did say I thought the lst was the worst, as did someone else who also said the second was the "better" Soundblaster. Amigaz said that the poster had something with that guess which means #4, which in fact was the SB16, was the worse Soundblaster card. Looking up Soundblaster in Wikipedia, I have confirmed that the SBPro 2 is indeed an 8-bit card as you said, and the SB16 was the next model up, adding 16-bit digital audio sampling.

Looking back again, I can see I was in error myself. 5h00n4y had said the second was the better SB or the GUS. Amigaz was clearly referring to the GUS then when he said 5h00n4y was on to something. So as it turns out the last one wasn't the worst one after all. I definitely can't be mistaken for an audiophile then if I couldn't even figure out which one was the worst.

Chill Qun Mang

I think next challenge will be to record a module from the pc beeper from a Commodore PC20-III, IBM PCjr, Amstrad PPC640 and Philips p3345, and try to guess from it!

Anyone up for the challenge?

Mine are stuffed with wool (and earwax) as always, so don't expect me to guess anything, I'll just try to figure out "what kinda of a freaking difference do those guys mean???"...

PS: Well done xpect!

Thanks!

This is a keeper for me!

The GUS has more punch on the original samples.
LAPC, better sound on instruments but no punch whatsoever.
The Soundblaster! Man, many, many years without hearing that sound quality. It bring me memories from 1992 when brought modules to play on my cousin's crappy pc.

Do you normalize with Wavelab and VSTdynamics? Or using other program?

Yeah, the GUS really kicks ass....when a game supports it you get some high quality enjoyment out of it, the MT32/GM/SB emu sucks though on it

Just recorded them from my mixer were all soundcards ar connected and then directly to my Mac Pro's built in soundcard @24bit 44100khz and recorded with Audacity then just exported to .ogg without any further processing
So it's a pure analogue recording

I was just asking because 2-3 secs after the music starts, exists a very abrupt increase in the sound, which is typical in that vst plugin with AutoLevel on.

So guess this is from the original sound.

Ah analogue... So good memories

Yep, I find it odd too but it has nothing to do with the recording

Not always, hear [ Show youtube player ].
Also, the in-game music is shorter, by half, than the Amiga version.
(Or that's just DOSBox / my lack of config skills doing... )

It's this the from a a real GUS? Or emu Soundblaster16 on DOSbox?

But the sound it's not to bad considering youtube's quality.
