Amiga UK User Group Site is Live!

Hi all

After discussions on Amiga.org, EAB and AW.net I have started a web site to coordinate the creation of the Amiga UK User Group. Whilst there are quite a few local groups, we seem to lacking on the National front.

I will be at the next MAG Meet to discuss and hear any ideas from anyone who wants to comment. In the mean time please register at:

www.aukug.co.uk

Also if you have not already done so add your self to the Platial map:

I signed up, I like the idea. I really really think you've done a great thing trying to create something like this (and I love the map) but..

Drupal (the scripts powering the site) seems a bit... well... erm... how do I put it delicately?

Shite

Do you use this one at work? Was it the first you came across? I am just curious.

vBulletin (what's used on EAB) or phpBB are my faves when it comes to forum related activity. But I would imagine you are really trying to get away from a forum style site. No? I mean why duplicate the functionality of EAB, Amiga.org and Amigaworld.net etc.

I look forward to seeing what happens.

Personally I'd like to see some UK based activities, bar meets etc. Perhaps some recommended shops & their locations (although they go out of date fast) times & dates of good car boot sales perhaps?

Some good ideas there Alex. As for the site's CMS yes it is Drupal. I have used it a few times along with Joomla! and CMS Made Simple. You are correct, I wanted to get away from the forum style, I wanted something different from existing Amiga sites and whilst the forum area is pants, it wont get used as much as EAB or Amiga.org.

I hope that initially it will help bring those who can't get to local meet together and those who are already in regional user groups to meet other users (in person) at a national venue. Just once a year, make the trip worthwhile making and also try to get enough going on at the show to make it worthwhile going!

I have updated the site with a new forums module and made a few tweaks. It looks a lot better. No indentation on the replies. Let me know what you guys think.

Little bump on this. Recent coverage in Micro Mart will hopefully help to attract even more new members.
