PC-Amiga Network Toolkit on ebay?

Does anyone know about this bit of kit on ebay?

Does it sound like a viable option for transfering Amiga disks from an Amiga 1200 with no hard drive to ADF format on the PC?

It looks like free software that the guy is selling with a cable.

I used a similar linkup years ago to backup/restore my A1200s harddrive when upgrading to a bigger disk. PC2Amiga is the program I was using with a null modem serial cable. Worked pretty well at the time I remember.

You might be better off with a PCMCIA to flash card adapter these days.

I agree - it's a little dated as a solution due to people having problems using the Parallel cable with Windows XP and the slow speed. I used it years ago with a Windows 98 machine, and the software is indeed freely available on Aminet (PC2Amiga). As a result, it's still built into my ClassicWB packs even though I doubt many use it today.

Speed is about 60-96K/s, and it can lose connections from time to time. I found it was best to archive stuff up first before sending it over.

You are much better off with a PCMCIA solution or IDE-CF adaptor for transferring files.

Wrote quite a bit about it here:

Thanks for the responses. The following method seems quite straightforward, are there any obvious limitations?

Like the guys above said, PCMCIA is the best option

Brilliant that looks good, thanks for posting. Will this tool work without a hard drive? I have some disks to transfer from my standard A1200 which just has a floppy drive.

It shouldn't be a problem

" You do not necessarily need a hard disk to use this adapter- the floppy disk supplied is a stand-alone boot disk as well as being a hard disk installation disk. "
