Micro Mart - Do you buy it?

This is a multiselect poll!

Micro Mart http://www.micromart.co.uk/ is the last readily available High Street print magazine that features the Amiga.

Sven Harvey diligently writes a dedicated half page as both a news resource and an homage to the Amiga.

A few months ago Micro Mart suggested that Amiga Mart may well cease to feature in the magazine. This led to many letters of outrage being sent to the editor. Consequently Amiga Mart was given a reprieve.

My feelings are that we should all endeavour to regularly purchase the magazine (its only 2).
We should write to the editor stating that Amiga Mart deserves a full page.

In addition Micro Mart runs a feature called "readers dives" I suggest that every amigan sends an image of his Amiga setup to the magazine editorial@micromart.co.uk for inclusion in this section...

Can we swamp the magazine and get a mention in next weeks edition!!!??

Lets Go!

There needs to be a "No" option

I only read the Amiga column in WH Smiths every week

Didn't it actually used to be a full page once upon a time or am I just imagining it?

Hmm, I voted but the stats look a little dodgy.

50% x 4?

Only two people have actually voted, it is a multiple choice poll which explains why the stats look a bit weird I think.

I dont think so. It's cheaper and easier to find people and hardware online.

It had it's day.

It was the Ebay & Forum & Bittorrent of the 90's

I never read the editorials even back then.

I just browsed through looking for the "Amiga user seeks like minded individual to swap disks for educational purposes. Send lists. No fake stamps"

and towards the end

"Swap A1200 with turbo card & RAM for 486DX66 or SuperMagicom"

Yeah I remember toward the "presumed end of amiga" people disposing of some fierce Amiga rigs for crappy PC gear

Being in the position I was in (working in my spare time at Microdirect in Manchester) I could usually buy the PC parts for a fraction of the cost of the Amiga hardware being swapped.

The best swap I ever got (Amiga 4 PC wise) was for four sticks of 64Mbyte SDR SDRAM which had been fished out of the returns bin at work for being incompatible / dud.

I turned up with 40 or more sticks and went through them until we found four that worked with his motherboard. He ran them for a week with no problem and I earned myself a nice A4000D.

They were on sale for about 40 each at the time, so the guy might have thought he'd got a good deal, but even if I had needed to buy them the price was about 10 each to staff. (A year later and EDO was gone and SDRAM RAM prices went through the floor and there was no margin on RAM ever again while I was there)

The best person I ever met through Micro Mart was a guy called Mick Hayes (Ayzi) from Nelson. He was a coder for a demo group called Impulse, I dunno if they ever did anything other than put cool menu's on other people's filed demo's but at the time I found it fascinating.

Anyhow he took this kid (who travelled miles and miles each weekend with his dad) under his wing and showed me coding, shared his sizable collection of WaReZ disks and gave me his entire collection of back issues of Amiga Format, which I still have!

I wonder if anyone else remembers Impulse in UK? I never was able to find any of their disks online, or any mention of them.

I think they changed their name to EquinoX (or everyone jumped ship) because half way through my letters (yeah, sad but I kept them all, mainly long lists of 68k asm) their stationary (which was very professional) changed to Equinox (although I guess not the famous european Equinox?), and I also got letters from a guy called "Son" (Chinese?) in Kent who was also a member of this group...
