I ported ancient unix version of lha to win32 about 3 years ago. I can upload it if someone needs win32 console lha that supports long file names. (I can't believe my port is the only existing win32 version of lha..)

No kidding! I can't believe anybody would bother with making a DOS version in the first place, considering LHA files are 99% Amiga dominant and Amiga files simply don't give a damn about 8+3!

I wonder if WinZip would use your version in place of the inferior one?

That can be disabled on NTFS partitions with the following registry key.

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\FileSystem]
"NtfsDisable8dot3NameCreation"=dword:00000001

Should speed up the file system a bit.

I'd bet its some backward compatability reason.

edit:
whiteb: Use linux to handle you lha/amiga files. linux port of lha works like a charm no 8.3 BS.
