Using a virtual Hard-Disc running Kickstart & WB v1.3 using WinUAE v1.5.0 - Prob
Hello Everybody!
I'm new to this Bulletin-Board and I've got a few questions: I'd like to use a virtual Hard-Disc-Drive (.hdf) running Kick & WB v1.3 (as it would work with any Commodore A500 & A2000 furnished with an external or internal Hard-Dic-Drive) in WinUAE to be able to install & run such typical & old Kick v1.3 Games like Delphine Software's "Operating Stealth". I already created & formatted a proper Hard-Disc - File that's 300MB-in-size and I copied all of the Workbench v1.3 - Floppy-Disc - Files & Directories using a german Tool called "DosControl" to that Hard-File. I examined that Hard-File containing that previously copied WB v1.3 - Floppy to see if it would boot running an A1200/040 incl. FPU, Kick v3.0 config. To my satisfaction, I noticed that this Hard-File was booting WB v1.3 without any problems at Kickstart v3.0. But when I was including that Hard-File within an A500 - MC68000 - ECS-Agnus - 2MB Chip-RAM - Kick v1.3 config in WinUAE, the emulated A500 would not boot WB v1.3 at all. I then was booting the WB v1.3 - Floppy within the same A500 - WinUAE-Configuration as mentioned above but after that Floppy-Disc has finished loading WB v1.3, I could not see any Disc-Icon for my Hard-File at all. When I was booting the "Install v3.0" - Floppy-Disc with an A1200/040 incl. FPU, Kick v3.0 config, it has shown that Hard-File as an "NDOS-Disc" right away. So I could format that Hard-File with un-checking (de-selecting) all available Format-Options at Kick v3.0. That's why I'd like-to-know, if it would be possible to use a virtual Hard-Disc-Drive at Kick & WB v1.3 or is the Amiga-Emulator "WinUAE" not capable to handle & use virtual HDDs at Kick & Workbench v1.3 at all?! I do have another question that suits to the problem I mentioned above: I'd like-to-know if it be would possible to use a tool called "HDToolBox" (that's supplied on every "Install-Floppy" starting from Kickstart v2.x) to partition a virtual Hard-Disc created with WinUAE as long you've set everything right?! Right now, whenever I start "HDToolBox", it only shows a blank window without any Hard-Discs to select at all. So I'm unable to use "HDToolBox" to partition virtual HDDs at all. Is there a way to make "HDToolBox" recognize virtual HDDs as long as you make the right settings within WinUAE's - SetUp-Window or is "HDToolBox" completely useless within an Amiga-Emulation?! If there's a way for "HDToolBox" to recognize virtual HDDs, could anyone-of-you tell me what to set within WinUAE's - SetUp-Window?! Last-But-Not-Least here are two last questions: Since WinUAE v1.5.0 is capable to handle other languages as just U.S. English, I was wondering if anyone-of-you does know where I can download additional Language - .DLL - Files for the most recent WinUAE-Version?! Does anyone-of-you know, where I can find a comprehensive "User's Guide" for WinUAE in either U.S. English or German that covers every single Feature-Of-WinUAE?! Well, these are all-of-my questions concerning WinUAE for now?! You'd make me a very happy person, if some-of-you could help-me-out with some or all-of-my questions?! Please excuse being my U.S. English so poor. I only had a chance to study U.S. English on a regular basis at Junior-High-School (Secondary-General-School or Secondary-Modern-School) for a period of 4 years only! But I really do hope that my U.S. English was good enough for each and anyone-of-you to understand my Problems in conjunction with WinUAE v1.5.0. Please-feel-free to correct any grammatical & spelling mistakes in my thread! So long, Andrej Dick a.k.a. A1200/060 (That's not a joke. I'm afraid this really is my real surname! My mother's unfortunately has accepted my real Dad's Last-Name (My parents are divorced now but my Mom's kept my real Dad's Last-Name after the separation) so I'm afraid have to live with that spoiled Last-Name. It's not possible to change my Last-Name in my country without gettin' married myself!) Last edited by A1200/060 - AGA; 06 August 2008 at 17:38. |

Here is WB 1.3 guide made by Paul. (RIP)
Just follow guide and you'll have 1.3 WB running fine with KS 1.3. ![]() I'm not sure why you can't use 2.x or 3.x workbench. WinUAE does not have complete guide with all features, and last time I asked Tony, he said that he rather program then spend time writing something what most of us would not read. If you have some questions about WinUAE, the best thing is to ask here on forum. As for surname, don't feel sad. ![]() |

Very quick answer: Click "Enable RDB mode" button in hardfile panel. Regular partition hardfiles aren't real harddrives.

Hi Dizzy, Anubis, Toni Wilen & 5h00n4y!
Thank-You-So-Much-For-Your-Turbo-Charged-Replies! I've already gotten posted that problem in two other german Amiga-Bulletin-Boards called Forum64 and the BBoard of the world-wide Amiga-Club called APC&TCP. But I haven't gotten any replies from their Users there so far yet! @Dizzy: Thank-You-So-Much-For-Accepting-My-Last-Name-The-Way-It-Is-And-Without-Any-Second-Thoughts! Is it really true that you were born in 1906?! If it is so, you do have All-Of-My-Respect that you're still dealing with such modern stuff like computers!!!! You still remember about the year of 1912 when a Luxury-Boat named "Royal-Mail-Ship Titanic" sunk in the deeps of the Atlantic Ocean?! What is it that you still remember of that horrible desaster?! @Anubis: Thank you very much for your Link. I'm sure that guide will help me setting-up a HDD at Kick v1.3 correctly! Yeah, you're right it's really strange it won't work when you set-up a Hard-File for Kick v1.3 at Kick v3.0. MayBe a Hard-Disc that's been set-up at Kick v3.0 would always be not compatible with Kick v1.3?! @Toni Wilen: Thank You for your hint. I'll follow it and enable that RDB mode. @5h00n4y: Thank for your comments about my Last-Name! In opposite 2 ur bro, I cannot change my Last-Name at all without marrying a woman having a different Last-Name than I do have! I guess the reason why ur bro haven't been banned from these sites yet, is that there are a lot-of-funny & mysterious Nick-Names out there and the ppl who run these sites think that ur bro's just joking?! Greetings, Andrej Dick a.k.a. A1200/060 P.S. Thank you to all-of-you for warm welcoming me in here! Last edited by A1200/060 - AGA; 06 August 2008 at 23:29. |

most likely reason for a hardfile to boot on 3.0 and appear as NDOS on 1.3 is that you formatted it in FFS while 1.3 doesn't have native support for that.
For 1.3 you need OFS or RDB mode with FFS in the RDB |

1) hd controller with boot rom (=uae hardfile in rdb mode) 2) filesystem in RDB (using hdtoolbox) KS 2.0+ does not have this limitation. "uaehf.device" is good search string in this forum ![]() |

No need to worry about your name. If your name was Bob Atari then you'd have something to worry about.

@all:
Hi! Once again, I'd like to thank each and everyone of you guys who were Helping-Me-Out with my Problem and for all of the useful hints you were giving me! At last I made it to successfully set-up a working HDD at Kick & WB v1.3! I've read Paul's guide in its entirety but I discovered that Paul's guide only would be useful if plan-to-set-up a Kick & WB v1.3 - HDD using a directory on one-of-your PC's Hard-Disc-Drive. WinUAE-Feature "Hard Drives/Add Directory or Archive" As to Paul's guide to set-up a Kick & WB v1.3 - HDD using a Hard-File, his instructions are completely wrong and you won't succeed in setting-up a working HDD at Kick & WB v1.3. So Paul's guide is useless when you plan-to-set-up a HDD using a Hard-File at Kick v1.3! MayBe some-one could correct that section of Paul's guide since Paul appearently has already passed-away! I'd like to give credits to "Toni Wilen" who was suggesting-to-me to search the Board for the Search-String of "uaehf.device". That's what I did and so I encountered Josh's thread who was having the same problems installing a working a HDD at Kick & WB v1.3 as I used-to-have! It's quite strange that no-one of you guys was pointing me to Josh's thread since I wasn't the only-one who was having that kind-of-a problem?! Daher nochmals Vielen Dank! (I hope you guys don't mind if I write some words-of-gratitude in "thomas's" native language?!) Now that I made it to install a HDD at Kick v1.3, I encountered another strange behaviour while booting WB v1.3. It's possible to set-up the correct Date&Time using WB v1.3's "Preferences-Tool" but as-soon-as-I reboot my emulated A500 it either says "<invalid> <invalid> <invalid>" or it just gives you some wrong date like "21-Jan-88" while booting WB v1.3. If I use an MC68020 cpu it says "Battery Backed up clock not found". So I would-like-to-know if there's a way to make the right settings within WinUAE so WB v1.3 would be able-to-memorize the Date&Time settings after rebooting WB v1.3?! As to the MC68060-Support in WinUAE: Has support for an MC68060-CPU already been completely implemented in WinUAE?! I'm asking this question 'coz I'm experiencing a very strange behaviour when I'm using an MC68060 cpu within my A1200 config. It always gives the following error-message "ramlib - Program failed (error #80000003) - Wait for disk activity to finish - available options: "Suspend" or "Reboot"whenever I'm trying to boot my WB v3.0 using an MC68060 cpu in WinUAE v1.5.0. Does anyone-of-you guys know if that error-message is either caused by a missing MC68060 CPU-Driver for my WB v3.0 or has it been caused by bad or missing support of the MC68060 cpu in WinUAE v1.5.0?! Okay, these are all remaing questions I do have in conjunction with WinUAE v1.5.0 so far. I hope you guys also will be able to help-me-out with these two problems either?! Btw, the files Offered-4-Download at ClassicWB got lost! Does anyone know when these Files will be available for download again?! Last edited by A1200/060 - AGA; 12 August 2008 at 22:39. |
